Yes, but that ride quality on the track translates to a miserable ride quality on the street. The new Type R looks like it is riding about as well as a 90s shitbox on eBay coilovers, whereas the Golf R looks to have a much more compliant ride at the expense of only one second at the track, which is a second I wouldn't miss on my daily commutes.
I still think the mk8 golf has been unfairly destroyed by the automotive press for “buttons”. yet the civic keeps being elevated even though no mortal can buy one without paying as much as an m3 worth of cash for it.
I haven't driven the MK8 yet, but by all accounts I have read, it seems like everything is an improvement aside from the lack of buttons, which appears like VW is correcting in the near future. I'm not too keen on the GTI's honeycomb fog lights, but I do like the R. If they would bring that R estate wagon over here, that would be my next vehicle of choice.
