At 1700 we could add a 500 sq ft formal dining hall and 200 sq ft of servant's quarters.

The Optima spit out amber fluid into the plastic engine pan the other day when my daughter started it. She heard a hissing and then it started smoking. My initial though was power steering pump but turns out this car has electric PS.
Then I thought a brake line let go and sprayed the engine .... but the reservoir is full and the brakes feel fine.
Then I realized that the A/C is blowing hot. Its not squealing or anything but I guess it would be just a matter of time before it locks up and fries the serpentine. It sucks because my daughter is learning to drive on it and is a scheduled to take her test in 5 days.
Then I was driving to swap cars with my son this morning and someone kicked up a small meteorite that left a circular crack in the T-Reg's windshield. 1st quote $850. Fuck!
Guess the recalibration of all the nannies is $400 of that. Sounds like to me.
This was from Safelight..... who is in bed with my insurance company. I swear its inflated based on our $500 deductible. If it was a thousand I'll bet they'd have quoted me $1400. I am gonna call some local mom and pops to see if I can get a more sane price. I hate to put in a claim for just over the deductible. They say it wont affect rates but I have my doubts.
Fuck

It's because the windshield replacement for the T-Reg requires them to re-program/align the ACC and all other bullshit. Tesla probably does that way more efficiently or not on the windshield itself? But yeah still a amount of money.

Windshield damage should not affect your rates. Glass strikes are nothing but pure chance.Irish wrote: ↑Thu Aug 05, 2021 10:07 pm The Optima spit out amber fluid into the plastic engine pan the other day when my daughter started it. Also, Safelite may be in bed with your insurance, but everything they have done for me has been priced fairly, IMHO. $350 for new MBZ glass. $500 for a new back Tahoe hatch. And their work is impeccable/warranteed to the max. GO ON: re new windshield=electronic reprogramming. These stories on this and Gbergs ARR have made me about VW.

Actually if you tailgate a gravel truck rock strikes are not pure chance but that's tough to prove.
Damn, @Irish, that is some luck,
That must've been a good sized rock!
FWIW I will back up the Desert Man here, I had Safelight replace the Bang Bus windshield once and it was like $350 and done in the hotel parking lot while I Netflxed and chilled in my room. 5/7 experience.

Yeah...I have used. Safelite before years ago and they were reasonable for a wind shield for the GTI. That one was an un properly covered commercial vehicles spewing debris. They should have been liable, but when I called the company they said "act of God". BS it was the LACK of Action on the part of your employee.
I didn't like that when I called Progressive's 800 number the Glass damage option took me to "Safelite Services, financially affiliated with Progressive" it almost sounded like a separate entity and thus my skepticism.
Fuck it, for $350 OOP I will just let them do it.
4 hundred seems high for recalibration ... i dont see how that could take hours of labor but whatever....

I just got a quote of $900 for the Kia from but cant do the work until the 24th.
Quote of $1050 from Firestone work done on Thursday.
Waiting on a few Mom and Pops to get back to me.
I wanted to throw Kia a bone because they replaced the engine under recall with 170k farts and I wanted repay the favor BUT we cant wait almost 3 weeks.....
This is all assuming its the A/C compressor..... he seemed a little baffled my the mystery amber fluid I described though...

Yea the amber fluid puzzles me… that’s usually transmission fluid and occasionally coolant depending on brand.
Ac compressor shouldn’t have either one unless it is coolant cooled (rare) or maybe something else overflowed and croaked the compressor

I know rite? Its just that the only symptoms are the small amount of yellowish (but not fluorescent )luid in the pan and hot blowing AC. Brake fluid seems fine as do the brakes, the power steering seems fine and its electric. The temp is fine as is the coolant level. I guess I should put a gauge on the coolant system. Maybe its the lubricant that comes in the freon? Wouldnt the compressor that is turned by belts require some internal lubricant?

Wait .. you said amber(redish) so that’s usually trans. Yellow is never trans.Irish wrote: ↑Fri Aug 06, 2021 2:20 pmI know rite? Brake fluid and coolant (both could be yellowish) are really different to the touch/look. Brake doesn’t usually dry out and is more “oily”. Coolant is a bit more watery. I don’t think there is much oil in the ac system, just some minor trace amounts. And usually they are not visible hence the need to use for UV due that helps track down leaks.
Keep us posted
Well, I signed up for a track night at VIR in a few weeks, curious to see if the Beemah is a let down after all the track time in the ‘vette or how it does.
To be honest I’m really enjoying it, the better tires and suspension definitely make it more fun and it’s nice to have a modern vehicle without dozens of “quirks”.
I am thinking of putting the tune back to stock , from time to time the motor has some weird little peaks and valleys with power, it’s not quite as smooth. It kind of makes it more interesting in a way but also makes me a bit concerned about longer term durability.
