:wtf: WAP made a car thread? AKA the most boring car thread ever

What I want:
Small – 179” max length
Car height, no CUV
Utility, specifically, 4 doors and a hatch.
<<$30k.
Much prefer new, but would MAYBE consider a 2018.
Able to burn 87 would be nice
Needs to be kinda fun to drive, so decent performance. It needs to be quick enough to get out of it’s own way, merge on short on ramps, etc, and some handling chops is a must.
A real color would be nice this time.
What I don’t want:

CUV/SUV/ /
Toyota anything – sorry Fled, et al, it’s just nahgonnahappen
Some 4+ year old luxury thing that was $50k+ new but only $25k now. Not interested in the maintenance and upkeep those will require.
An ugly-ass Civic


Current contenders:

GTI
What can I say? Still the overall Best Car to Rule Them All, the Swiss Army Knife of cars.
Plus’s: Value, quality, comfort, performance, superiorinterior, it’s got all that.
It’s quick enough, handles well enough, hauls shit when necessary, great road trip car.
They seem to have the EA888 down in it’s 3rd generation with fewer carbon issues. Correct me if I’m here.
There’s a reason why so many of us here bought one.
Can be found for mid-$20’s

Minus’s: I’ve already had 2, though the Mk4 2.slo is a completely different animal than a 6 or 7.5 so can’t really include.
Smaller fuel tank than a Mk6.
Not available in many colors. The blue looks a lot like my CSG and I don’t care for red. Honestly, it looks best in white, IN MY OPINION. I could live with a white GTI.

All-Track
Plus’s: Scratches that wagon itch I’ve had for a while.
Bigger cargo capacity. Duh.
It has the 1.8 engine. The only reason I’m not including a GSW here is because of the 1.4.
Available in real a couple of real colors.

Minus’s: Not as fast or as nimble-handling as a GTI.
about AWD, though the owners here don’t seem to mind it.
No cloth/plaid seats. Big bummer for me.

Plus’s: Not a VW
Epic warranty
Epic feature content
‘s to be had. True for all choice, tbh.

Minus’s: Not a VW
Not as good looking as a GTI
Not many color choices
No cloth option

Not that many plus’s, honestly. Kinda meh about this, really. Supposedly quite nice but even less sporty than the previous gen.
No real minus’s really. Don’t like the C pillar.
No Mazdaspeed version.

That’s all I got for now.

I would likely recommend a 1/2 year old used GTI or a new one if epic money is on the hood. Once again the key here would be waiting... which I am you're willing to do. We will start to see epic 's in 2 weeks or so, and in 1 month I would expect most of the country to be open for rape/businesss.... so it will be an amazing time to shop if you can hold out that long.

know that if you're shopping now you're only there out to NECESSITY.

Are there major MPG/maintenance considerations ? If so a 340i will present an excellent value for not much extra.
Amazing examples can be had for 25k or so. IMO there is no better value on the used market than that... but it comes at a price of premium 23mpg and BMW rape fees for repairs.

Honestly given the tight criteria, in particular the Hatch piece... The literal only sensible option is a GTI/Golf of sorts.

There is no other "fun to drive" New/Ish hatchback.

A civic Sport comes to mind... but it is far slower than a GTI.... Also CVT...

I don't have the headlight boner of most here, but even my halogens were pretty damn good, way better than BMW halogens.

Given your use case, GTI makes the most sense probably.

IMO Civic Si is a better driving/handling car, but only.

Veloster N is neat and DCT is coming... would you be down with the styling? Seems like you prefer more conservative.

WRX is but a no-go with the automatic.

I know you said no used luxo but a Beemah like mine is like $20K in brand new condish and is kind of just a RWD GTI that looks better and has a better blue color.

Acura ILX might be worth a look, I think they have a DCT and the dynamics of a Civic Si.

Just don’t get one with a pano roof.

Sadly that leaves you only with the S, which while well equipped, gives you no good headlights or sport seats.

I still want an Alltrack tho.
