Dayum. Y'all did 87 miles? :stravacreepin:
I can't imagine it in the wet.

Did some cycling this weekend. I have a tradition of riding 2X my age on my birthday, turned 35 Saturday so went out and did 71 miles. I hit about a 40 mile group ride and then 30 solo, I wound up averaging 20.2 MPH so I was pretty stoked on that. It was my first big ride with the Ultegra Di2 setup and new Hunt wheels. The Di2 is honestly amazing.
Sunday the wife and I and some friends rode around to some breweries/bars/eateries as well which was fun.
I think I'm going to do this on Saturday pending weather: https://center.whitewater.org/race/the- ... G8QAvD_BwE
Damn you’re fast. I have never averaged that on any ride.D Griff wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2024 3:34 pmI can't imagine it in the wet.

I was stoked on that, generally I'm ~18 MPH riding road solo, sometimes faster. I was faster back in 2021, trying to get back to that level but I don't have the time I did during COVID/my inside sales gig.Johnny_P wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2024 8:04 pmDamn you’re fast. Yeah that's moving. How much do you feel like the wheels helped?
Man... very hard to say.
That's fair, especially when you also did Di2 at the same time.D Griff wrote: ↑Tue Mar 19, 2024 10:57 am Man... very hard to say.
I set off on the group ride portion with the A group and got dropped pretty much where I normally get dropped 10 miles in. They average like 24+ MPH, I enjoy hanging on the back for dear life as long as I can, generally 8-10 miles. Bacially I averaged 20.0ish solo which definitely seems fast, particularly as it was on the back half of the ride. I also got lucky with lights, it was lower traffic than usual, etc.
So I think they helped a bit but def not life changing. I'd say both are cool but the Di2 was probably money better spent, every shift is perfect every time and it's just so easy to set up versus ducking with internal cable routing and such.
My bike did go from 20.5 to 18.3 pounds. It feels like I really have a dentist bike now which is kind of fun, but also now no excuses to not be fast. I did also get carbon bars too. All of it was $1800, so , shifting, brakes, bars.coogles wrote: ↑Tue Mar 19, 2024 11:43 amThat's fair, especially when you also did Di2 at the same time.D Griff wrote: ↑Tue Mar 19, 2024 10:57 am Man... very hard to say.

I've gotta think it'd make a big difference on my bike shaving 500 grams of rotating mass, plus the aero benefits. Here's hoping I can make that happen this summer.
I'm thinking maybe the wheels do make a diff. I picked up a KOM on this evening's ride and a couple other top 10 finishes. It was also windy AF so I chased down a few segments on the way back north when the wind was pushing at my back.coogles wrote: ↑Tue Mar 19, 2024 8:12 pm
I'm hoping I'll get there eventually, but just a set of wheels should get me a good chunk of the way. Maybe one day I'll be as fast as you and you know who.
Speaking of being fast, the new watt targets in my workouts based on my 240W FTP test are really mean. It's going to be awhile before I feel like I'm dominating my output targets like I was before this last test. That 250W FTP goal still feels like a stretch, but we'll see. when I'm going to test again.
Sup dude. Glad to hear about your impressions about the carbon hoops. I'm pretty certain I'll be adding a set to my whip here soon too, I'm pretty damn excited. 20 miles @ 23-24 is bookin'! As is a 21mph average for 52. I don't think I'm anywhere near that but we shall see. Still haven't ridden outside this spring on the heels of all the Pelotoning I've been doing. I think my FTP should be at 250W now based on how I feel, but I won't be testing for another 3 weeks or so. I'm planning to do a group ride Tuesday evening that should at least give me some idea of how much more fit I am. I have a couple options:D Griff wrote: ↑Sun Apr 21, 2024 7:02 am What’s new in the bike world? All in all I’m really enjoying my electronic Ultegra and can say confidently that carbon wheels are well worth my price of entry. They’re probably the only upgrade I’ve done that just legit made me 5% faster full stop. Plus they look dope.
The group ride I do some Saturdays has a seriously quick A Group, like 23-24 MPH average. I was actually able to keep up longer than ever yesterday, stayed on for almost 20 miles. I was both dying and then my Di2 battery died, so I dropped off, but still averaged almost 21 MPH for 52 miles, feeling great about my strength.
I’m def up like b 10-15 pounds over where I should be, my diet has been not great. My dad’s health/family stuff, IVF stuff, and work being pretty demanding have led to some eating and drinking off the feelings. I’m hoping to clean that up a bit, maybe it’s time to start tracking calories again.
Last weekend I went mountain biking at the Whitewater Center, it was a blast. Need to get out on the trails more as well.
That’s the challenge. I don’t even have three kids and getting out on the MTB is tough. It’s like 1.5+ hours of loading/unloading the car, driving somewhere that cuts into time I could just be riding if I roll out of my driveway on the road bike.coogles wrote: ↑Sun Apr 21, 2024 2:04 pmSup dude. Would do the B group if I do that 2nd one. That'll still probably be faster than the first, but the first is quite a bit closer to home. which one I'll do.
about the MTBing. I've had the itch to get another one but every time I think about bringing it up with , I start to think about when I'd actually use the thing and realize I wouldn't. N+1 (a killer shop in Louisville) has an 11% off code right now for their entire site, and Ibis is already 25% off. That'd make a Ripley with the Deore drivetrain $3,761.25 shipped to my door, which is insane. Can't imagine I'll actually pull the trigger, though.

Totally. I really can't justify ditching the family to go ride a bike on the weekends. The kind of evening group ride I'm talking about I can maybe get out to every couple weeks, and if I have some down time at work I can be out my front door and ride for an hour and still feel like I accomplished something. There's no time for that with the MTB.
I mean no reason a fancy squish squish can’t do dad duty?coogles wrote: ↑Sun Apr 21, 2024 4:45 pmTotally. I really can't justify ditching the family to go ride a bike on the weekends. The idea of slaying trails all day sounds amazing but it's just not realistic for me.
I do think I'll eventually get another MTB, but it's going have to be able to pull double duty as a dad bike and replace the 15 year old 26er Cannondale I have. It'll be something like a Trek Roscoe that I can ride around with the kids and also take out to the trails if I ever get the chance.
