Started thinking about the air traffic, and I think its disrupting our sleep, our kids high school is right beside Canada's largest highway (401), and I really think we can do better for ourselves. The only problem is that right now we have a non-existent commute for my wife and are as close to my client base as possible. Anywhere we go will tack on more time and money to travel.
Sounds like you got some thinkin' to do.
Lifestyle is the goal, a better area with a more enjoyable backyard and possibly a small salt water pool seem like a good goal.
The hard part is that they don't ALL come together unless the price goes up significantly.
The goal:
1. Little extra travel cost
2. Big lot/green space/pool
3. Highly desirable area/good school
All three are easily going to cost us an extra $200k, which we can afford to mortgage. The .gov are about to make changes to lending restrictions to make homes easier to qualify for, and interest rates are flirting with a hold or decrease, all of which will make the jump more expensive since the price gap will grow.
That's a lot of loot and much of it will be thrown out the window on real estate agents and taxes.
Staying put seems like a financially wise move, but the lifestyle at our current place isn't that great.
