Shifting is handled by a vintage Suntour Superbe Pro 7-speed indexed groupset which is extremely rare and in near perfect condition. This was the premiere groupset of its time, pacing both Campagnolo Record and Shimano Dura Ace. Down tube shifters make a very satisfying click as you cycle through the gears, and it shifts crisply and cleanly on the rear and front. Loose ball cup and cone bottom bracket is a dream to work on and adjust. Hubs are cup and cone Superbe Pro in excellent shape laced to Mavic MA40 ceramic rims. These are very quiet hubs that spin forever. The rims show some damage to the ceramic which is typical for its age. When I bought it I overhauled the bottom bracket, hubs, and freewheel. All were in excellent condition, and it should be good to give you years of trouble free use. Brakes are the coveted hidden spring Superbe Pro models, and the only blemish on the groupset is a missing aero bolt cover on the rear caliper. Brake pads will be replaced with new Shimano-style holders and pads.
I love this bike but sadly it must go as I have no real use for it anymore. I bought it as a city beater but I just can't bring myself to subject it to that. It rides nicer than my carbon fiber road bike, soaking up road buzz and has a great springy feel. It's not the lightest bike in the world, and I'd estimate it's 24-25 lbs, but you really don't notice it after a bit of riding. What you will notice is the rather tall gearing, a product of the earlier years of cycling. But that makes this thing a rocket on the downhills and flats.
Price is $500 but negotiable for friends. This was $1500 new in 1990. Price includes bottom bracket wrench and spanner, SR Sakae original quill stem, caged pedals with blue straps (not the LOOKs) and paint matched frame pump.
