I know a few people have had great success with some aftermarket warranties on their MINIs.Johnny_P wrote: ↑Wed Apr 11, 2018 10:09 amMore thoughts:max225 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 10, 2018 7:35 pm https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/cto/d/ ... 82117.html
Paging Johnny! S5 wrapped in a Q5 body straight trade for an STI
Paint color: Blue
Theoretically under 6 seconds to 60
Roof rack
182" long, similar to my car
This wouldn't be a bad pick really. I wonder how turd-y they drive. And if they're reliable. I know the 3.0"T" engine is supposedly pretty good on the reliability front, and this one is detuned from the S4/S5 spec so it should theoretically last even longer. Rest of the car though? All them sensors, power lift gate, broken sunroof, etc. Certainly a lot of very expensive parts to break. Wonder how effective an aftermarket warranty would be. Also those bumper corner mounted lights suck and are asking for a problem from typical by-feel parallel parking.

I dunno... my stepmom has a Q5 I have been maintaining (2011 model) and my good friend had an Audi A4 (2013). Now my stepmom had 2 issues ... engine mount and water pump in 80k miles and 7 years.Johnny_P wrote: ↑Wed Apr 11, 2018 10:09 amMore thoughts:max225 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 10, 2018 7:35 pm https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/cto/d/ ... 82117.html

My buddy didn’t have any but only 40k miles. So relatively trouble free for a combined 12 years and 120k miles...
Yes I know small sample size but just FYI.

Yeah some seem to be rather decent. Reality is if it needs to go in for repair work it's a huge pain in my ass to deal with. Regardless if it's covered by a warranty or not. This being my only car, even being down for 1 day is a problem.Apex wrote: ↑Wed Apr 11, 2018 10:15 amI know a few people have had great success with some aftermarket warranties on their MINIs.Johnny_P wrote: ↑Wed Apr 11, 2018 10:09 am

someone I know is thinking about downgrading to vw from his q5, because of the repair/maintenance bills he gets. He commutes 60 mi roundtrip from bumfuck nowhere VA to closer to DC.Johnny_P wrote: ↑Wed Apr 11, 2018 10:09 amMore thoughts:max225 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 10, 2018 7:35 pm https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/cto/d/ ... 82117.html

Realistically a 4Runner is more appealing to me because of the possibility of that.MexicanYarisTK wrote: ↑Thu Apr 12, 2018 5:57 pmsomeone I know is thinking about downgrading to vw from his q5, because of the repair/maintenance bills he gets. He also wanted a car as about as nice to drive as well. While 4runner may be a sensible choice given his driving situation, it is not that good to drive.Johnny_P wrote: ↑Thu Apr 12, 2018 6:44 pmRealistically a 4Runner is more appealing to me because of the possibility of that.MexicanYarisTK wrote: ↑Thu Apr 12, 2018 5:57 pm
