I have a hard time relating to either of these points of view. It all feels forced, and if you’re forcing yourself down a path, how can that lead to happiness. But I also don’t find myself worried about social-politico things - i observe and them interesting and occasionally head scratching. I find the path to happiness is to shed the worried feelings from things you can’t control and to navigate the world as it exists in front of you. It’s not about things, or the lack of things.

Re time for reading, doesn't anyone use audiobooks? Listen during your commute. I "read" at least a dozen or more books per year this way, plus the few I actually read in real books in bed before going to sleep.
Man, it's funny, when I was driving the Bang Bus a few hours at a time through the open country I would listen to books/podcasts a lot, now that I have a 20-35 minute commute each way I find I normally just desire listening to music in the car. the difference, but I love an upbeat jam in the car after a long day in the cube farm.

The discussion was about not having time to read books. I was just suggesting an alternative way to get some book "reading" done while not taking up extra time.troyguitar wrote: ↑Tue Nov 26, 2019 5:43 pmMusic >> wordswap wrote:Re time for reading, doesn't anyone use audiobooks? I can't pay sufficient attention to the book if I'm in the car, especially if I'm driving. Maybe if I listened to everything 2 or 3 times?

I used to read voraciously..... prob 20-30 novels a year..... but for the past 10 that really fell off...... I'm wondering if heavy screen time (Pc/phone/tv) decreases attention span.......

Fair enough.[user not found] wrote: ↑Wed Nov 27, 2019 8:13 pmI've never been someone to read in a car or listen to podcasts/audiobooks in a car. Even before screens became prevalent.

Just did about 500 miles today and didn't have time to learn the full lyrics to a single 5 minute song, too busy paying attention to the road and all of the morans around me.wap wrote:Not even during a long drive on the interstate?troyguitar wrote: ↑Tue Nov 26, 2019 7:09 pm

I'm still missing a few words and notes here and there after listening to this song on loop for probably 5 of the 7 hours I spent in the car today.

I listen to podcasts almost exclusively while driving and music while working.
On the bike I don’t listen to anything other than sweet, sweet exhaust noise,

Ever since I changed jobs and stare at screens all day I’ve definitely noticed this... especially when I have rehearsals after 10 hours at work... it’s extremely tough to read music.
