...because Jessi totalled the Camry.
She's fine, it's not bad, but with the damage, and KBB it's totalled for sure.
So, what happened?
It's a four lane road, with the right lane shut down for construction. She was in the right lane, sped up to merge left, got cut off, and tried to make it into a driveway, hit the curb, went over a small piece of dirt and landed on the far side
It landed on the bottom of the core support, bashed it all in pretty bad, popped the radiator, and fucked it all up. She still drove it home doe, she said it got really hot then cooled down, so Toyotas are air cooled.
Two Camrys and a Funeral.

Did she not see the car in the lane she was turning into? I like blind spot monitoring for this very reason, most and barely look over their shoulder anymore, can't see so the more assists the better for those poor bastards.
I like the Soul, it seems like a great chick car, up high, compact and cute. Been liking the products/wild colors from the Korean twins lately.

Jessi was going to buy a car in the next few months.
I could probably just pull the core support out and throw a new radiator in, junkyard bumper for a hodge-podge repair, but that would compromise safety.
Doing it proper with a new condenser, radiator, welded in core support, on a car that's got a KBB of $3,000.
Could be done for cheaper, like you said, with junkyard parts, but that's a lot of effort for that car.

The Soul is cheap inside, sure, but it's got all the amenities she's been wanting. Plus, it's a perfect size, great gas mileage, and pretty cheap to insure. Not to mention it's still under warranty.
Plus, hookup, and help a friend make a sale, it's a win-win.

Ah sweet, glad you're getting a good hook up on it. Good luck and hope she likes it. My wide had a Santa Fe for 10yrs and it held up nicely!Melon wrote: ↑Thu Sep 05, 2019 10:08 pmYeah, words were had about driving defensively.Tarspin wrote: ↑Thu Sep 05, 2019 9:55 pm Did she not see the car in the lane she was turning into? The newer Souls are decent, would consider if I needed a NFG boxy thing.

I was going to ask if insurance even makes sense ? That Camry is worth like what $2500 tops ? The insurance premiums may offset that.
Also can you go for a newer model perhaps with safety tech ?

The insurance policy is still in my mom's name. So once this is done and over, I'll close it out. I have a separate policy at a different company, so my rates shouldn't the effected.
12k is about our limit, and this is one of the newest vehicles we'll get for that price range.

For $12k, it's probably hard to beat the Soul for what it is.
Could also be worth looking for a Scion xB for that Toyota reliability. I'm sure Kia is fine too

Honda HR-V's might be "cheap" now too. Could probably also find a Buick Encore...those are surprisingly well equipped.

Not 12k cheap, unfortunately. We looked at the HR-V and the CH-R when they came out, and we both liked the Toyota more.
No way I'd ever get her in a Buick, unless it was a Regal GS, and that would be pushing it.

HR-V has been out for a little while, I'm surprised they haven't depreciated down to ~$12k yet.
It really will be hard to beat the Kia.
One more thought...Renegayde?
