I'm weighing in on this side of the the sports car definition debate. Historically, sports cars have always been smaller, lower, lighter, (often) 2 seaters, and better handling than other cars, and that extended to pony and muscle cars when they came on the scene. I see no reason to change that distinction now.[user not found] wrote: ↑Thu Jan 03, 2019 9:53 amSports cars are light, simple, small, and good dance partners. Not necessarily fast in a straight line, but focused more on handling before power.

That doesn't answer the question, old man. Is the Challenger Hellcat a sports car or not?wap wrote: ↑Thu Jan 03, 2019 3:38 pmI'm weighing in on this side of the the sports car definition debate. But no, muscle cars are not sports cars. Simply stuffing a monster engine into a "regular" sedan our coupe does not a sports car make.

There's nothing "regular" about an AC Cobra tube frame chassis.

That's putting a big engine into a sports car, not a regular sedan. It's a muscle sports car.

The distinction is an emphasis on performance. This gets tricky with something like a golf R it is definitely not a sports car... but it also is

I think the hellcat is a sports car based on the Google definition of the word:
sports car
/ˈspôrts ˌkär/Submit

noun: sportscar
a low-built car designed for performance at high speeds.
