engine should be good for anywhere between 60-80 hp. Lots of factors to consider, and we have to get it running correctly to even attempt to gauge this.
I know its not alot but it's also has a min weight of 1k WITH the driver, so i imagine the car itself is under 1k.

Isn't it supposed to be based on a VW beetle? So Around 50-70hp if fully "built"

Basically under 100hp is the limit on this setup.
80hp on a good build is very possible. Also "fully" built is sub $800 of hot shit parts for maximum powah. If we pop this and go "big" to 1915cc you can make around 120-130hp but start to really battle heat in a race setup.

But what is the actual power figure on the current 1600, not theoretical one... I thought these topped out around 70-80?

YES. It actually is fantastic. Very neutral and steering is perfect. Way better to flick and no go kart twitch. I worked on it all Saturday afternoon and most of sunday. It started acting right. I made some good hot laps in the driveway of 2nd video.
It screams in 1st through 2nd. In its current fat tire and 1600cc motor, its more "Formula First [FF] than Formula Vee [FV] which is limited to 1200cc and baby carb with skinny 15" wheels.
Its gearing is REAL short there. We will explore the 3rd gear but I need more road to test on.

I'd rough guess 70-80mph? Its surely gearing limited. Will have to find decent enough stretch to run it for a top speed GPS. It has no speedo now. Just tach and oil pressure.

the were 54hp from the factory in current SAE hp specs. We have no method of telling what this one makes as its had custom work done. It has a later model more efficient head (1977 from a bus), I found since the spark plugs are the smaller diameter. So we really have no way to know unless it gets dyno'ed. And that aint in the budget.

Yea it'll be 10% of the cost of the vehicle which seems pointless.

Here was the press release to sway people to move to Formula First from the dated Vee series. This car has parts of both. Change happened circa 2002.

what is pointless? This is about the cheapest race platform you can get. And we are about to load up on $50 slicks.
Besides, percent base breakdowns when you are talking sub $10k racecar game is futile homie. Its not a leased German Camery. Its a racecar and by default is excessive. I just care about running and total cost.

if we know the weight we can do a 1 gear pull with gps and get back to hp reasonably easy

Sounds about right. I estimated mine made around 80 hp. Do you know what year the engine is?

oh. I see there. Yeah, pointless to dyno unless free. I thought you were running motor cost against cost of car.
