Btw so what's that mustang running under the hood to come in at 35.xxx sec
Also interesting to see 90% of the cars are 44-52 seconds

35.xx is the indexed time, the actual times are the first set - 44.68 for Stephen Lee for example. That's an "F Stock" 2016 GT with performance package. The only mods are koni shocks, a bigger front sway bar, RE71R's on lightweight stock-width wheels, an alignment, and a lighter cat-back exhaust. Stephen (and Cindy in 2nd, it's her car that he was driving - she won nationals last year in her class) is just a really fast driver.max225 wrote: ↑Mon Jun 26, 2017 10:18 pmSurrounded by gayatas !troyguitar wrote: ↑Mon Jun 26, 2017 9:11 pm First day autox results are up:

The fast people in prepped cars were all within 44-47 seconds, from the full retard C5 Z06 at 44.0 to the H Stock 2006 Civic Si at 46.9. There's almost no point to a big fast car in this stuff.

Spent some time looking closer at the car underneath and stuff, noticed a few more issues. Bump stops and strut boots are obliterated up front, ordered new ones along with strut mounts and spring isolators to go with the Koni inserts that are on the way. Went ahead and got bump stops and boots for the rears too even though those look OK. Clutch pedal was a little lazy to return and the fluid was black so I bled/flushed that, feels good now. 3/4 of the engine mounts look new but the rear has some tears starting to form so I ordered a replacement for it. Also ordered a bucket of stupid plastic fasteners which broke when I pulled the cover to get to the clutch reservoir...
All-in I'll be looking at closer $9k for a fully set up nationally competitive autox car with 2 sets of high end wheels and tires that's in shape for its age. The only thing that will remain to make it look 100% in the future would be to have the plastic bumpers properly resprayed and cleared/buffed, dunno if I'll ever bother with that

If anyone's curious about the breakdown (Hi max!), it's like this:
Car+tax: $5000
8 wheels and tires: $2500
Koni strut inserts: $600
Other strut refresh stuff (mounts, bump stops, etc.): $200
Big ass custom sway bar and end links: $400
Engine mount and other maintenance bits (fluids/filters/fasteners/detailing/whatever): $200 or so
If I add an aftermarket exhaust that's $200, but I'm on that. Adding the longer Corolla 5th gear and MWR cruise control is $500, I'll probably do that eventually. A bluetooth-capable head unit will probably also happen sooner or later for $100.
Doing everything the right way with no expense spared still ends up under $10k all-in.

Given your desire to run this thing in stock class autox, I'm guessing the motor swap with the Vibe isn't happening. I'd really like an MR2 XRS, seems like a pretty badass Lotus for poors.troyguitar wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2017 3:06 pm If anyone's curious about the breakdown (Hi max!), it's like this:

Yeah I won't swap it unless SCCA moves it out of being competitive in its class and I blow up the stock motor, both of those things are possibleD Griff wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2017 3:10 pmGiven your desire to run this thing in stock class autox, I'm guessing the motor swap with the Vibe isn't happening. Interested to see the results, if the tires were in fact that horribad. Then I wouldn't be surprised if you shaved 3-4 seconds off your time.
BTW. Didn't see you mentioned any brakes.... ? Not even padzzz?

Stock toyota pads are pretty good, no reason to change them until they're worn out. I will pull the calipers and clean/regrease the sliders, then flush/bleed the old fluid while I have everything apart for the suspension refresh but that doesn't cost anything. $5 in fluid, $1 in brake cleaner and $.05 in grease I guess?max225 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2017 3:15 pmman those are some staggering prices for staggered wheelstroyguitar wrote: ↑Tue Jun 27, 2017 3:06 pm If anyone's curious about the breakdown (Hi max!), it's like this:
