Hey...

I have a coworker that just closed on his new house Friday and is a bit of enthusiast.

Recommendation for a preferably sub $50 bottle he may enjoy?

Any clue about things he definitely likes?
Not really. It’s been a bit of a newer habit for him, so he’s broadening his horizons over the last few months. He’s been open to trying different bottles.

Laphroaig 10 year is probably what I'd buy but it's a polarizing bottle (Islay Scotch)
Eagle Rare belongs in every collection (bourbon)
Glenlivet 12
Wild Turkey Rare Breed
Glenmorangie Highland Single Malt
Mitchers Straight Rye

All good options
Can you please explain this?

I'm currently enjoying a bottle of Glenlivet 12. Can confirm it's 5/7.

Islays are HEAVILY peated. Laphroaig 10 is like drinking a marshmallow that was roasted in an oil refinery that was polluting way above legally accepted standards. I love it but many people don't.
Laphroaig is my favoriteeeeee

I go back and forth between it and Lagavulin but I love both. Fair description?
I don't remember ever having Lagavulin

Laphroaig is IMMENSELY peaty. Scotch haters would say it tastes like dirt. I enjoy it. I've actually ordered it as an after dinner drink on a number of occasions. I like dirt.

Does Trader Joes sell liquor in the Blessed Lands? They routinely offer bottles of Balvenie with sherry or portwood finishes just slightly above your price range. They are good "gift" bottles.

I need to be in the mood for something really peety. It does happen, and I keep some bottles on hand for such occasions. Ardbeg mostly.

On the opposite end, I've been all about the Auchentoshan three wood lately.

Ardbeg Corryvreckan is just phenomenal.
Need to try.

I've just got Uigeadail which I like quite a bit.

Oh, you're just referring to the peatiness. Got it. My Ardbeg to me is at least as peaty as my Laphroaig. :megusta:

I have a bottle of half cask Laphroaig and I enjoy the taste of peat bog very much.

I think it largely depends on the users and the focal point of the forum. I'm on a motorcycle forum that's gone full circle - forum closed, moved to Facebook, and now is back to a forum again. The Facebook page is still there, but nothing much is discussed - it's usually just people sharing pics or videos at this point.

Admittedly the political atmosphere of 2016 had a lot to do with it - many of our most respected and active FB members quit FB and social media altogether, and we still wanted to talk about motorcycles - hence the reformation of the forum.

So I was touring Jameson distillery.... got a bottle of Middleton very rare for my boss. It was a really good whiskey IMO. Have you guys had it before ?
