The jeeps in the last pic are on 37s and 40s fully caged etc
To get to 37s in a jku that's a solid 7k what the fk is the point in that. You can do fun things without that. Rock crawling is retarded, it is the equivalent of stance to me
Not everyone has to enjoy the same things as you. I happen to like rock crawling.
Rock crawling is fun.
Hell, I crawled rocks with my 3" lifted XJ on 31's. Not boulders, but small rock gardens like that last photo were fun. It actually takes a lot of driving skill.
Different strokes.

My guess would be that Chris took some time off because he has read the dialogue on this page 1,345 times and decided to spend some of his free time doing something besides beating a horse to death.
I feel like I'd rather just use a dirtbike or dedicated little 4-wheeled offroader that's small enough to tow with pretty much anything. That way you can always get home too no matter what breaks on the trail.
I thought about a side by side, but I don't have anywhere to store it.
If I had the space, I'd absolutely buy a side by side. Could tow with anything, as you said.

You wouldn't make it on your baby dick 31s anywhere up that last pic

Hard to tell without being there. There might be a line that could do it...and that's part of the fun. I was shocked at the stuff I got my XJ over.
Hell, I took my stock JK over some rock gardens that looked pretty hardcore and weren't with the right line.

Pose it on a boulder in your front yard.
I need to be your neighbor to pull that off. We'd be kicked out of our 'hood for a stunt like that.

The lot next to us is empty, build a hobbit hole on it.
If I could get a job down there, I'd consider it. I'd love to live in KY.

Different strokes... I would much, much rather drive the C5, so I do. I'd kill myself in an Ecoboom Escape. But I don't need to be warmly caressed by my car, I want to enjoy driving it.
We're talking DD and no you wouldn't kill yourself you drive a god damn house for god sakes.
A c5 is a shit DD, one of the worst things ever actually.
For fun that's a different story but we're talking DD
An Escape is way more comfortable than a C5, yes. But that doesn't make it a better dd FOR ME. Some people want a couch with a badge, some want something fun, others want something in between.
I'd daily a C5 over an Escape but a Golf R over either.
this argument started when someone said a wrangler was a terrible DD.
That was me. It is. An Escape is a better DD in every imaginable way aside from being able to drop the top which you'll do maybe once for a commute then never do again because it takes longer to drop and raise the top than your whole commute takes.
For a funmobile the wrangayler takes the cake doe.

Yup. My 335 makes a killer DD also, however if it had 17s it would be a bit better riding.

I thought the 235 rode pretty nicely? I didn't drive it that much though.
17s are really the ideal tire size anymore though. Cheaper to replace the tires, still offer good performance and look good, more pothole absorption, more wheel protection, etc.

Car rides nice, but marshmallow tires would help with bumps. But you trade off handling...

I think it really depends on the tires. Generally you trade off a bit of steering response, not really outright handling, when changing wheel sizes.

I think it really depends on the tires. Generally you trade off a bit of steering response, not really outright handling. There were stark differences in steering response between the ContiProContact, Conti DWS, and BFG Sport Comp 2 AS tires I had. The Sport Comps were awesome for steering response but rode harder, the DWS were marshmallows with wallowy steering, and the ContiPro's were probably the best all around.

FWIW I vastly preferred the way the GTI drove with 17s vs 18s when I was shopping back in 2010. It seemed more eager to turn and gripped harder. But the tires were different between the two, with 17s getting Contis and 18s getting Dunlops or something.

I traded my Detroits for Denvers 4 days after I bought my car for just those reasons, and got a $300 check from the to boot.
Where are these mangos?

I don't understand anything anymore.
I had 17s and 18s on various GTIs. I much preferred the 17s.
