You can make it surprisingly affordable if you're willing to go in off-times, like autumn. This trip will come in under $2500 all in for the 2 of us for 6 nights.

On Friday we went to Potsdam. There are a couple of neat Baroque palaces there.
First one we visited was Neues Palais, built in the 1760's. It's now a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Across from the Neues, from where I took the above picture, is The Communs, so called because it was where the kitchens were and the servants who worked at the Neues lived there, too.
It's now used by the University of Potsdam.

The other palace we visited in Potsdam was the Sanssouci, which means "without care" in French. It was small as it was meant to be just a summer palace of Frederick the Great.

Last pic is of our last beers on our last night. We had a very nice dinner in Potsdam and drank this.
Wife's was unusual. It was beer with Fanta, and was surprisingly delicious. My awesome dark is on the right.

I miss Berlin, they also have a turkish town too and a really nice restaurant that made me feel right at home. But it's kind of a :mahtroy: area, I even smelt weed there too.

I saw a few obvious Middle Eastern folks, and some Africans, and heard a lot of languages, lots of Russian, Chinese, some Polish, Greek, Spanish, etc. It seemed like a pretty well integrated city, which was nice.

Fuck it.
I'll start with a couple pics of Zurich, which has a :neat: old town, dominated by the Grossmunster, a Romanesque church. Construction began around the year 1100, so it predates the Gothic style, which is pretty :impressive:

This is St. Peter's church, famous for it's 28 ft diameter clock.

Here's a few shots of Zurich from the top of one of the towers of the Gross Munster (190 steps to the top), with Lake Zurich visible in the 3rd pic, and a shot of the Gross Munster at night.

I'll try to get some pics of Lucerne up tomorrow. We took a day trip there and liked it so much we went back the next day, which was easy to do since we bought Swiss rail passes that gave us unlimited access to their inter-city trains, inner-city trains, subways, trams, buses, and boat networks, and free admission to something like 500 museums across the country. Well worth the money.

Lucerne was a 5/7 city with a :neat: old town. It's an easy train ride from Zurich.
