350 mile round trip today to Spartanburg to pick these up.

16x8 with non-RFT summers.

Should probably hold on to them if I decide to replace the Pooper with an ND. :notbad:

I think I’d need an ND2 with the telescopic wheel as I don’t fit that well in Miatas, ND1 included.

Although the real reason I won’t get one is because I’m :scrooge:

So one of the main reasons I got a mini is because I visited a friend in Austin, and he happened to have had a super clean 2013 Pooper S with 52k miles, single owner and all maintenance records...

I just found out... it just popped the motor... "Waterpump fubared... popped two belts and overheated..." he bought an aftermarket "warranty" which is now fighitng with the :dillerman:

He is a car guy and specifically got the 2013 because they were supposed to be ok... :wtf: this is terrifying.

Lots of cars have water pump issues. Toyotas even.

You're fine with the B-series engine in the F56, though.

His real fault was buying the "warranty" and not scrutinizing it.
I think it was his fault buying a mini but sure... warranty could have been scrutinized further as well. :doomed:

That’s a very bold statement.
The N18 is crap as it’s based on the even crappier N14 which is the infamous PSA Prince engine.
Do a search, they’re crap.

B48* is MILES better but as [user not found] said, shit does happen.
*B58 is the 6 pot

/bought 2013 N18 Poop S sight unseen with no warranty. :aintcare:
Truth be told, I’m kind of scared of a failed cam tensioner but everyone says “that noise is normal”

To be faaaaaaair...

The FSI/TSI engine in the VWs have all the same issues the N14/N18s do. Water pumps, timing chains, carbon buildup, etc. The TSI and N18 are both evolutions of engines that came out when DI Turbro engines were new.

TSI is like the N18 - improved but not perfect. Early and often oil changes solve a lot of issues. Just gotta be on top of your preventative maintenance game - they're not Camrys.

That all being said, the B-series engines are stout engines, only sullied by some early teething issues with things like crank bearings (hence my recommendation to avoid 2014s).
Makes sense. Not gonna worry about it, just figured I'd share with the class. It is quite rarish for some of my closer friends to pop motors, as none of us mod, and all of us maintain by the book. IMO losing an engine before 100k miles is epic :disgust:

Question for those with Mini/s or used to have em. Does mini have a nationwide "maintenance" type record locator ? I am curious what exactly "vehicle serviced" means for my mini.

It was "serviced" at 21,650 miles and at 22,165 a different :dillerman: performed an Oil change.

:wtf:

Well actually..

You have a valid point re EA888 but I’m willing to argue that the N14 has a far worse record than the FSI engines, which also sold way more than any Prince engine, PSA cars included.

Bring your service adviser a $150 gift card to Ruth’s Chris and he’ll probably take care of you.

Cam follower is totally fine and takes what $30 and 5 mi. To replace ?

The main issue was once again tunes and other bullshit where the fuel pump was replaced by one designed by the gods at apr that would then eat into the cam.

Replace it every two years or so and you should be good.
