At the same time, it appears that the base 07-08 Cayman with a few grand in NA bolt-ons can get around 250 or so whp at the same weight. That's pretty since those are finally getting to be under $20k. Figure about $25k for one with decent power and suspension. Same price as aDetroit wrote:I honestly know nothing about rotary engines, but it seems like depending on the power, you could run into issues with accelerated apex seal wear and maybe rotor durability (if that's a thing)?troyguitar wrote: ↑Wed Apr 25, 2018 12:00 pm What bottom end? The Renesis just spins!
Obviously the keys are to use good parts and tune it conservatively. Without a engine+trans build and clutch, the limits are indeed "low" - like 250-300 whp in an RX8 for example and without a massive amount of low end torque like current OEM turbo cars have. Beats the hell out of the stock ~170
There's a cool kit which keeps the turbro down low and central in the chassis so you can keep the weight balance closer to stock. Can't see it when you pop the hood at Hooters though, so maybe it sucks.
But 250-300 whp isn't crazy. Would probably be 5/7.

Unfortunately where I live, in the land of straight roads power is king.

Especially compared to Detroit. My might as well be a lambo.

Also, although there are strong styling similarities between the C5 and RX7, the RX7 is a way better looking car imho.

In NC maybe I'll be able to get away with a Poorsche without all of the "must be nice" shit that I got with the here... though the extra housing costs will make it prohibitively expensive for the foreseeable future.

I'll concede that it's better looking, but to go as far as WAY better,Desertbreh wrote: ↑Wed Apr 25, 2018 1:01 pmAlso, although there are strong styling similarities between the C5 and RX7, the RX7 is a way better looking car imho.

It should be the most fun to drive of any in that segment. Sounds like it's kind of there.Davestr wrote: ↑Wed Apr 25, 2018 1:17 pm In case you wonder how the new X2 badge whore CUV drives etc - https://jalopnik.com/the-2018-bmw-x2-ac ... 1825512047
Also, other than MOAR BADGES what makes the X2 different from the X1 other than styling?

Eh, I have always wanted an MR hatchback that looks cool and sounds cool with ~300 hp NA engine, ~3000 lbs and compact dimensions, etc. Essentially a Cayman S. It's been the "realistic dream car" since they came out.Detroit wrote:The Dorito sounds like your perfect car, troyguitar wrote: ↑Wed Apr 25, 2018 1:03 pm

RX8 is perfect for the price, any upgrade costs at least double. I still want a Cayman.

I will test this thing soon. My dealer is happy to toss me the keys next time the M2 goes in for a routine service. From what I read and see the X2 is lower and shorter than the X1 and is more 'dynamic'. I hope someone does them a head to head test. Bloody expensive Golf-R it seems, touch more room and the BMW name/badge etc. Im not a big CUV fan but I am curious about this particular one as far as how it drives. The rumor of a 6cyl one is interesting.Detroit wrote: ↑Wed Apr 25, 2018 1:22 pmIt should be the most fun to drive of any in that segment. I was going to post this as well. A 6 does not make sense in a configuration sense. Rumor be rumorin.......[user not found] wrote: ↑Wed Apr 25, 2018 1:54 pmBMW doesn't do V6s, and BMW also won't fit an inline 6 in their FWD-based architecture.
A more powerful 4cyl makes more sense or hybrid.
I do like the gold paint on the Jalop test rig.
