my e46 was a maintenance nightmare. It caused me to swear off old M cars. If you’re interested I can write up everything that was broken and got fixed
Appreciating cars... suggestions ? What's the current trend ?

Spec E46 is becoming pretty big, which unfortunately is taking a lot of 330i off the road for people like me who want to own one some day.D Griff wrote: ↑Mon Feb 01, 2021 11:52 amE46 non M are pretty decent track cars I think. E36 are by far the most popular (both M/non M) which leads me to believe that they're the best bang for buck. They are right up there with Miatas in popularity at NASA and SCCA events.
E46 M3 is a really cool track car, but the motors require much higher maintenance and M tax on parts adds up.
I love them too, I think I'd rather keep tracking a and daily something like a 330 like youCaleDeRoo wrote: ↑Mon Feb 01, 2021 12:04 pmSpec E46 is becoming pretty big, which unfortunately is taking a lot of 330i off the road for people like me who want to own one some day.D Griff wrote: ↑Mon Feb 01, 2021 11:52 am

To me if you want to build out a car for pretty much just track use, your best bets are C5 Corvette, Miata, E36 (6 cylinder, probably not M), maybe 350Z? Gotta start with something cheap and robust with cheap parts available.

Another car to add to this list would be a GT-R.
Doing mild research now, but it seems like they don’t dip below 60k and I doubt they will go down much further considering how epic the performance is...
Problem is C8 is priced the same...
Come to think of it the C7 must be the only corvette gen that literally never fucking depreciated. I have never seen one for sale that was significantly cheaper than new... I got my C5 @5 years old with 19k miles @ 1/2 of msrp. The new ones never got below 70/80% of msrp even though they had 10k on the hood for a few years now

I feel like C7 is overdue to take a dump in value. They are ugly and already look old/poverty spec since the C8 release.max225 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 04, 2021 9:12 pm Another car to add to this list would be a GT-R.

GT-R is an interesting idea, not really my thing but they are amazing vehicles. What’s crazy is the ones that are now worth $60k were $60-70k new 10 years ago. I’ve heard maintenance on them is rather costly but they are pretty reliable I think.

C7 pricing is absolutely retarded. It most likely stems from three things: the C8 not having a manual so people are hopping in manual C7s, boomers going nuts that the C8 is mid-engine so they want the "last real Corvette," and C8 production issues meaning that those who HAVE to have their Corvette right now have to get a C7.max225 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 04, 2021 9:12 pm Another car to add to this list would be a GT-R.

I think they are buying and holding... that's severely restricting the available 2nd hand inventory.Huckleberry wrote: ↑Fri Feb 05, 2021 2:37 pmC7 pricing is absolutely retarded. Especially trans ones. And they still look and feel somewhat modern, so there's literally nothing more modern that you could replace a C7 with at the price, even MSRP.max225 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 05, 2021 2:51 pmI think they are buying and holding... that's severely restricting the available 2nd hand inventory.Huckleberry wrote: ↑Fri Feb 05, 2021 2:37 pm

m2?
Supra?
Camaro?
Mustang?
Challenger?
Plenty of choice IMO. Yes some are better in some ways and worse in others.

Corvette has always been the only game in town that's super car performance at an every man's price, all in an approachable sports car package you can sell your wife on. The issue here is that anything decent in the car realm is quickly evading everyman status.

I think is probably right. Non-comps can be had in the low 40s, which IMO is a lot of value for money at the moment.[user not found] wrote: ↑Mon Feb 08, 2021 12:51 pm I think the M2 is a possible future classic.

But the only one that will be worth anything is the m2 cs and that is 85-105k the others will likely tank in value.
Damn 100k really is the old 50k as far as car pricing goes. I am not sure I’d like to park another 100k in cash like that

You have to respect the Z06 for the epic power though.D Griff wrote: ↑Thu Feb 04, 2021 9:27 pmI feel like C7 is overdue to take a dump in value. I'm kind of mixed on Grand Sport versus Z06... Grand Sport is really the most sensible/best spec... But I would probably go Z06 just to experience that crazy power, at least once. ZR1 is next levelDesertbreh wrote: ↑Mon Feb 08, 2021 2:50 pmYep I should have bought one of those and done the head work. I would DEFINITELY rather have a C6ZR1.

The LS7 is an epic engine, just gotta do a little fix on it. The Targa roof is of little value to me. Plus no need to hunt for a Z06, that's the only way they came.D Griff wrote: ↑Mon Feb 08, 2021 3:01 pmI'm kind of mixed on Grand Sport versus Z06... That thing is fantastic, but I don't see it as really an "investment", I think it has a ways to go down before it comes back up. Is it a future classic? Absolutely, it's the last great BMW. But they are still available new, that's not exactly a recipe for lack of depreciation. The earlier versions have already dropped $20K.max225 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 08, 2021 1:19 pm http://atcm.co/S2PVDP/223320f9

They sort of have and haven’t. They were around 52k in 2017 and they are about 62k for a comp now (most are comp) and cs is 85k+
