Turn Signals Optional: Gberg’s M3
We had sunny and 65 weather here today so I finally got to take the car on a backroad drive for a bit. Still have to keep everything under 6k but it was
It sounds great but I’m definitely going to do midpipes eventually. Despite the idle being kind of clattery, the engine is so smoooooooth in the upper revs. And as a bonus, having fun with it on the backroad still returned 18 mpg for that trip.

Yuuuuup. Probably going to go with active autowerke which of course is the most expensive but
Coming from the vw world it seems odd that there are 3 different kinds of midpipes to choose from.

Equal length is also called spaghetti exhaust as you'll see from these photos from Active Autowerks
This is for the F80
And this for the G80
It equals the length of the mid pipe from what I assume is the turbo shared by the rear three cylinders to the longer one from the front three.
ah, interesting, thanks. I bet those fetch a premium around racewars.CaleDeRoo wrote: ↑Wed Mar 06, 2024 10:07 amEqual length is also called spaghetti exhaust as you'll see from these photos from Active Autowerks

It will retain the raspy sound. The spaghetti pipes will make it sound closer to something like the B58 which most people prefer.dubshow wrote: ↑Wed Mar 06, 2024 10:25 am any reason to avoid the common pipe style?

Single midpipe: sounds more like B58
Regular midpipe: Similar to stock but louder. On the raspier side
Equal Length: Smoother higher up in the revs.

I assumed the single mid pipe would do that as well but sound clips I came across didn't support that. Probably since the B58 exhaust merges before the turbo and is "equal length" between the front 3 and rear 3 cylinders.

Does a stock M3 actually sound bad? I don't remember any issues with it... Unlike the E46 RASP aka can of nails bashing through your head every time you keep up with a minivan.
Coming from nearly 15 years of VW turbo 4 poppers, I think it sounds great but it is on the quieter side. I'm not sure if you can open the valves 100% without a controller and there is definitely some fake noise as well.
The midpipes delete 2 secondary cats and 2 mufflers so there's a noticeable increase in sound.

Whoa it deletes 2 cats and 2 mufflers that's wild... I probably wouldn't fuck with that but the last 1 or 2 mufflers may actually be a decent mod. What kind of exhaust does the M4 CSL use? I would think that was properly tuned for "performance" I don't really believe the whole "Restriction" claim from any aftermarket exhaust manufacturer.
The primary cats are still on the downpipes and there aren't any 02 sensors after so it won't throw a CEL. The Dinan midpipe, which is also the cheapest, retains the secondary cats and replaces the 2 mufflers with an x-pipe.max225 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 06, 2024 2:07 pm Whoa it deletes 2 cats and 2 mufflers that's wild... I think the CS and CSL have a titanium rear box. Not sure about the rest of it.

I seem to remember the M3 sounding pretty darn good/loudish when I drove em just over a year ago on the track. And I think I did notice a bit of "artificialness" inside the cabin.
same. I like my stocker. I believe its stockGberg2119 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 06, 2024 2:05 pmComing from nearly 15 years of VW turbo 4 poppers, I think it sounds great but it is on the quieter side. So with spring right around the corner and the summer ramz going back on, do I need a new floor jack?
I currently have the harbor freight pittsburgh 1.5 ton which was fine for the VW's but the BMW is about 500 pounds heavier at 3800 lbs. The R was ~3300 which is right near the rating at 1.5 tons but I'm not lifting the whole car onto stands. I'd just be swapping ramz one at a time so I'm if I'd need to get something like a 2 ton jack.

Well a ton is 2240 lbs unless they use the fake americans tons. Either way its either 3000 or 3360lbs... which seems fine as you're only lifting up 1 wheel/side. But then again HF is not exactly quality stuff...Gberg2119 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 12, 2024 12:06 pm So with spring right around the corner and the summer ramz going back on, do I need a new floor jack?

If I did replace it it'd be with either a 2 ton HF or Husky I'm going to assume they're using 'murican tons as the listing for the 2 ton says 4000 lbs.max225 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 12, 2024 12:19 pmWell a ton is 2240 lbs unless they use the fake americans tons. They're probably all made in the same chinese factory anyway.
