People were lighthearted because they young, dumb and full of superior interiors.
:notwrong: the world also hadn’t gone to shit as much as it has now. I was ignorant to politics back then (I still try to be as much as possible today), but the hated between the left and right didn’t seem nearly as intense back then.
I don't think divisions are new, what is new is social media clan culture where you're either with or against people. There's no middle ground, and there's no compromise. Organizations are now forced to pick a side, and that applies to orgs of all sizes, including this one. As a place with no real identity, that ended up being the death knell. Neutral is no longer an acceptable stance for anyone/thing, like it once was when this place started. When this place started, picking a side wasn't life or death like it can be now.

We also now live in a world where digital identity is just as if not more important than physical identity, Nothing is truly anonymous, and nothing is shouting purely into the void. As a result, places like this have a new found responsibility to serve members in a fair, equitable, and honest manner, and without a true identity, that's impossible without alienating someone. I think it's this that lead to the most recent :nuke: departures, and that's fair considering how the world has changed. We should all be more careful about digital privacy, and airing out all dirty laundry for the world to see isn't wise. I abandoned traditional social media because of that, but I suppose this place can't be excluded from that anymore.

All of :dat:

The divide was always there, but the throwing in faces was less so when people didn’t have their own platform/echo chamber to spew their bullshit from. Both sides virtue signaling out the ass. I just sit back with my  and watch them all make fools of themselves.

Would a ban on politics on the forum be of use or folly? I always just avoided it altogether but after a brief browsing of the punch bowl hole lee shite I can understand why [user not found] bounced.

The political forum could have been deleted just as easy as users and records. That by itself has little to do with departures, it's the fact that we tried to remain neutral and continue the anything goes approach that we started this place on. That's no longer acceptable.

Banning it entirely will just alienate people further because posts will need to be moderated as the topic creeps into other conversations. Who's moderating and who's determining what's right and wrong? That's the slippery slope that erodes the basis of this place. AND That's when the real :triggered: starts.

Here's the problem, in a nutshell.

Y'all let people be way too shitty to each other for too long.
I didn't leave because of political differences, or worlds views.

I left because I couldn't come here and post about something that interested me without the possibility of getting shouted down and insulted.

Y'all say you want free speech, well 8chan is that way, y'all always wanted some moderation, some civility, lest you really want a haven for nazis and child porn people. There was even a vote at one point to remove some of the worst offenders, yet you voted to let them remain, regardless of how many other people left.

Here's the hard truth: This is a problem of your own making.

The political shit should have been kept to a minimum, it's impossible to have those discussions without it getting heated. Notice how little religion came up, same idea, but y'all self-moderated. Words like censorship and agenda get thrown around all the time. This isn't a goverment, it's a silly car/random chat board. No one's civil rights were being violated, y'all really need to chill the fuck.

Which brings me to my last point.

Why would anyone want to do the work to keep this going when all you do is get shit on for trying to keep the peace?
Say what you want about Zach and Paul, but I was super hands off when it came to moderation. I even went through the mod log last night, to check on some claims, as I remembered I never did delete a political post, or an expressed point of view. It was all people being shitty to each other.

All good things must come to an end.

If y'all do migrate, keep the lessons about how to deal with interpersonal conflict close. Don't be afraid to dole out temp bans, or bans altogether if someone is genuinely toxic to the community.

Man this is part of the problem. You lot had your personal issues with Brad and that friendship souring and you come in here and just fuck things up for the rest of us. I thought more highly of you, personally, than that. There are a handful of you from the OG crew that I still respect and would enjoy shooting the shit with, but the rest of them can fuck off and are the reason I opted not to join your guy’s discord group. Some real prime hypocritical pieces of shit in there.

No hate on you personally, you’re one of the few I’d still chat with despite shit like this.

I hear you, but I'd suggest that those who weren't able to "keep things chill" are gone and that the rest of us have by and large been able to do so and likely will continue to into the future.
Yea, well...that's what we thought a year ago. Now look at where we are.

People by nature aren't chill or civil on the internet. Period. At this rate eventually, we'll be ground down to <5 or so members that are unoffendable, and that'll be it. The last cucks standing.

Preserving the core friendships between the last remaining should be the priority. I'd be legit sad to not communicate with you guys anymore. So while the forum as we know it might have to die, we should be able to find other means to keep the conversations going for a little while longer.
I was offended when Troy called me Desert Dumbfuck on the Dead Forum, but other than that I resemble this remark.

I think at one point I had 10% of the forum blocked
:wat:

I've had shitty things said to/about me by shitty people but I was just :aintcare: and never bothered to block anybody. Why give them that power? They're just a bunch of internet stranger dorks.
You’re older and wiser than all of us combined.

I don't want to see this place die, especially for such a stupid reason as some fucktard poisoning various threads that :triggered: valued OG member(s). The fucktards are gone so why can't the rest of us just stay put until the maintenance/upkeep of this place gets to be too much for Griff to keep it going? At that point we can jump to either another forum or whatever this discord thing is.

Random thought: The GolfMk8 forum is probably pretty sparsely populated at the moment. We could invade and settle in, Ragnar Lothbrok style.
:lolol: Invading and taking over a different forum is :lolol:

The problem is, Z I L L was the tech force that helped Dan keep this place going. Now that he ghosted us, we don't have any tech support. If we don't start planning next steps soon, this place could just grind to a halt at any time for no reason and we won't be able to fix. I keep getting more server errors, so something major is wrong in the backend and it's not getting better.

The need to find a tech person kind of forces off our own unique forum, which honestly doesn't really add the value for us that it once did. Discord is a hang out/chat type service that resembles a forum, but isn't as robust. Still should be fine for our purposes. Hardest thing will be establishing and enforcing rules, which we previously :aintcare: but landed us in the situation we're in now. It's clear we can't just keep things chill and civil across all members, so some sort of moderation will be required going forward. Hard part is that basically forces moderation to chose a side, so no matter what we're probably not long for this world.

I'll repeat that nothing makes sense anymore.
All :dat:

@WAP, no one here really wants to stop the ongoing friendships those of us still around have, it's more just a matter of the best way to accomplish this. I feel like because I have to be 'in charge' it places pressure on me and kind of sucks. Like, I could've banned Brad when he came back. Part of me wishes I had. That would defeat the entire purpose of the change in the first place though, and the reality was B E N D E R was just as bad, I just happen to agree with his political views more, so I didn't really see it that way.

There is also the financial cost of the thing, and like Chris said, the biggest issue is running a website. I appreciate everyone being willing to kick in a few bucks, but no one is volunteering to be an actual admin which is what would be required.

I think we should create a Discord (or something else similar, open to whatever suggestions) and also just keep this going for a while. We will see how it all plays out.

The paid Discord also allows custom Emojis which is rather :fuckyeah:
