Love it obviously (minus the clapped out wheels). But it’s already at sticker + daddy Doug needs 5k… so not gonna happen.D Griff wrote: ↑Tue Apr 05, 2022 9:38 am @Max... https://carsandbids.com/auctions/9Q26Wg ... -benz-g550

I fucking love the 135. Even the 128 would be great. My friend's car is on c&b
Seems kind of for a high mileage turbo BMW.
Also it looks like the 996 market is softening based on C&B. That silver aero kit coupe that went for 31k is so fucking hot, and a pale yellow '99 cab went for 18k

Man, I'd love a 996. Once the prices started rising I lost interest, but if prices get more realistic...CaleDeRoo wrote: ↑Tue Apr 05, 2022 11:39 amI fucking love the 135. Even the 128 would be great. Intake swap, headers and a tune yields almost 300hp n/aD Griff wrote: ↑Tue Apr 05, 2022 9:20 am

That 4S didn't sell at $30k. With 153k miles on it...CaleDeRoo wrote: ↑Tue Apr 05, 2022 11:56 amhttps://carsandbids.com/auctions/rJn1BM ... rera-coupe

The pale yellow cab is kinda Price seems to be about in line with what I'd expect for 150k miles too.

Oh duh didn't see the 4S no saled. I shouldn't be surprised those are usually 40+. I still think that cab and silver aero are about 3-4k under peak a few months agoDetroit wrote: ↑Tue Apr 05, 2022 12:02 pmThat 4S didn't sell at $30k. I stopped paying attention to vehicle prices a while ago, so can't gauge vs peak, but the cab and silver aero do seem to be more in line with what I'd expect.

The first one seems great considering a new civic SI costs the same... But something about 996s just don't appeal to me.. still a lot of money... and yet so much risk and headache to own one... if you actually drive it. That may take a lot of joy out of it.CaleDeRoo wrote: ↑Tue Apr 05, 2022 11:56 amhttps://carsandbids.com/auctions/rJn1BM ... rera-coupe

Yea, paying a lot of money for ANYTHING this age is a major gamble. Maybe my S4 has given me false confidence but I don't think maintenance costs would factor into a decision about a 996 for me. Like Max said, are you really going to settle for a Civic SI instead?
For me, it's really not a cost issue as the cars are otherwise cheap to own. They aren't going to plummet in value like a new car could, they won't be a ton to insure. Some maintenance costs are
My problem is the stress/time of the thing. You have to either take a lot of time to wrench yourself, which usually ends up taking me 2X the time for any given project it should. Even if you elect to pay someone, you have to find a good shop, coordinate logistics of getting the car there, getting around without it, picking it up. You have to take it back when they inevitably fuck up, negotiate the price of fixing the fuck up... it's a big thing to take on logistically to have a car that isn't near perfect.

If like to stay ahead of the bigger items, and I feel like a 997 orC7 is where it's at in 2022

Man, I dont even want that fast of a car anymore. I feel like anything over 10lb/hp that handles worth a daym will just get me into mucho trouble.
Like the only thing I'd kinda consider moving my fleet around for at the moment are:
bmw 3 series hardtop vert
affordable elise
affordable boxster
another miata that is newer (mazdaspeed, nc prht, ND or fiata)

This sounds like something that might happen once during ownershit at worst, and something that could happen with your BMW that you've bought not once but twice. You can do it Dan you're primed for a 996D Griff wrote: ↑Tue Apr 05, 2022 4:29 pmFor me, it's really not a cost issue as the cars are otherwise cheap to own. Well round one my BMW was pretty much brand new with only 15 K miles, even round two though it is still 15 years newer than a 996. I think age is the biggest factor followed by mileage. It’s not that I think Porsches are bad cars but anything that old will break and I’m sure the Porsche tax is real.CaleDeRoo wrote: ↑Tue Apr 05, 2022 5:46 pmThis sounds like something that might happen once during ownershit at worst, and something that could happen with your BMW that you've bought not once but twice. 996 Doesn’t really do it for me though, I am more of a Boxster or Cayman guy.

I would take this thing over a 996 all day long if I am spending 30 K.

Thats the gen boxster I was considering over the beemer, 08-13 IIRC. older ones maybe slightly less? But 1000% thats a better car than a 996, faster too base to base IIRC, just no "but its a 911!!!!" street credD Griff wrote: ↑Tue Apr 05, 2022 6:37 pm https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/8fc7 ... =atempest4

If you're talking about the base 981 Boxster like the one Dan posted it's not faster. They weigh the same and the 911 has only about 20-30hp more but a full 60lbs ft more. I loved everything about the Boxster I had for a week but it desperately needed more torque. I'd have to drive a 996 to see how it compares but it's just a different experience.Big Brain Bradley wrote: ↑Wed Apr 06, 2022 7:05 amThats the gen boxster I was considering over the beemer, 08-13 IIRC. older ones maybe slightly less?
