Looks like I’ve also found some ramz w/ meatz for the Pooper.
This has all escalated way too quickly.
Deetz will follow.

350 mile round trip today to Spartanburg to pick these up.
16x8 with non-RFT summers.
Should probably hold on to them if I decide to replace the Pooper with an ND.
I think I’d need an ND2 with the telescopic wheel as I don’t fit that well in Miatas, ND1 included.[user not found] wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21, 2019 7:53 pmI’ve got a 2016 ND1 Club w/BBS and Brembros in ceramic, if you’re mi-curious.Swedish Chef wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21, 2019 6:35 pm

You have the B58 engine which is in ever 2.0t BMW and Mini since like 2015. You're finemax225 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2019 1:35 pm
So one of the main reasons I got a mini is because I visited a friend in Austin, and he happened to have had a super clean 2013 Pooper S with 52k miles, single owner and all maintenance records...
I just found out... it just popped the motor... "Waterpump fubared... popped two belts and overheated..." he bought an aftermarket "warranty" which is now fighitng with the
He is a car guy and specifically got the 2013 because they were supposed to be ok... this is terrifying.
Yes I am aware, which is why I got it... but this is close to home... literally this was one of the main reasons I went mini...CaleDeRoo wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2019 1:40 pmYou have the B58 engine which is in ever 2.0t BMW and Mini since like 2015. You're finemax225 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2019 1:35 pm

I have heard the exact opposite.CaleDeRoo wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2019 1:40 pmYou have the B58 engine which is in ever 2.0t BMW and Mini since like 2015. You're finemax225 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2019 1:35 pm

I think it was his fault buying a mini but sure... warranty could have been scrutinized further as well.[user not found] wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2019 2:45 pmLots of cars have water pump issues. Toyotas even.max225 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2019 1:35 pm

You're fine with the B-series engine in the F56, though.
His real fault was buying the "warranty" and not scrutinizing it.

That’s a very bold statement.max225 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2019 1:35 pm

Makes sense. Not gonna worry about it, just figured I'd share with the class. It is quite rarish for some of my closer friends to pop motors, as none of us mod, and all of us maintain by the book. IMO losing an engine before 100k miles is epic[user not found] wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2019 5:07 pmTo be faaaaaaair...Swedish Chef wrote: ↑Wed Sep 25, 2019 4:36 pm

The N18 is crap as it’s based on the even crappier N14 which is the infamous PSA Prince engine.
Do a search, they’re crap.
B48* is MILES better but as [user not found] said, shit does happen.
*B58 is the 6 pot
/bought 2013 N18 Poop S sight unseen with no warranty.
Truth be told, I’m kind of scared of a failed cam tensioner but everyone says “that noise is normal”
The FSI/TSI engine in the VWs have all the same issues the N14/N18s do. Water pumps, timing chains, carbon buildup, etc. The TSI and N18 are both evolutions of engines that came out when DI Turbro engines were new.
TSI is like the N18 - improved but not perfect. Early and often oil changes solve a lot of issues. Just gotta be on top of your preventative maintenance game - they're not Camrys.
That all being said, the B-series engines are stout engines, only sullied by some early teething issues with things like crank bearings (hence my recommendation to avoid 2014s).
