Car Talk 4: The Richard Hertz Rent-A-Car 500
I don't think I'd ever actually thought about a Corvette until Golfmk6, likely because Troy bought one. I always kind of discounted them and never realized they were actually epic sports cars for pretty cheap.

if you really think about it, you probably wouldn't end up getting the anyway if you hadn't gotten the and joined the dead forum in the first place.

The C5 had been on my radar for years I just needed the right time to buy one.

One thing that is a little bit short sighted from manufacturers (at least in my industry) is the intangible side of it. People who are already customers will notice if they go to the show and X company isn't there. Others may go buy something online because they saw the booth and thought of the brand they hadn't remembered/known about previously. Magazines/publications write about who they see at the shows...[user not found] wrote: ↑Mon Mar 11, 2019 11:23 amI get a few customers every year who went to some auto show and came to whatever brand I'm working for because they liked what they saw.troyguitar wrote: ↑Mon Mar 11, 2019 10:03 am Use "journalists" to reach the larger public. Basically combine press days and enthusiast events, since the line between the two is blurry anyway.
How many non-car people pay for tickets to go to the auto show (and then buy something they see there) anyway?
They're not worthless, but returns are certainly diminishing.
But bean counters will bean count.

and some of us former owners haven't even joined the dark side too, aka golfmk6.[user not found] wrote: ↑Mon Mar 11, 2019 3:37 pmYeah, but that was well before they were Poorvettes.

True, but I didn't know about you guys then. Troy's/golfmk6 put them on my radar as great poverty supercars. I don't remember you really discussing your C5 on golfmk6 in the early days when I joined in 2011.

I was essentially checked out of the car after 5+ years and 40k miles. I DD'ed it for a year, modded it at points, and had quite a few issues with mine actually.

I agree, he only made threads about contemplating on selling it as he had his egg tdi and his vette as a second car, I was fairly new at the time, so fall 2012ish

I'm 4.5+ years in and about 35K miles now. The C5 has staying power for me, every time I consider offing it, I can't find anything that really keeps up from a performance/dollar stand point.

There isn't anything that is comparable. Which is why I kept mine as long as I did also.
You can assign certain points to a car in a certain category, say performance 10/10 or what not. There is no other car that high on the performance ladder for the price. However plenty of different other cars out there that either perform better or are better inside ... etc etc yet usually they'll cost more.

The Silverado steering wheel in a sports car is a touch of class Ferrari guys can only dream about.max225 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 11, 2019 6:03 pmThere isn't anything that is comparable. Which is why I kept mine as long as I did also.

Cavalier wheel for you... I think the C5 actually had a Corvette specific wheel. Plenty of other great interior issues Honestly its mainly that center stack+ radio + worst door panels known to man (for C5). Rest of the interior is ok.Desertbreh wrote: ↑Mon Mar 11, 2019 7:02 pmThe Silverado steering wheel in a sports car is a touch of class Ferrari guys can only dream about.max225 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 11, 2019 6:03 pm

Not showing up at Geneva Auto Show this year - "Things are so bad Jaguar Land Rover, the U.K.’s largest car manufacturer, didn’t even bother to turn up, and Ford Motor Co. F, -0.71% stayed away, as did Volvo, Tesla TSLA, +1.14% and struggling General Motors GM, -0.13% ."
ALL the German OEMs skipped the North America (Detroit) show this year, which I can't recall ever happening before. No BMW, MB, VW (VW, Audi, Porsche, etc). It wasn't a sign of struggle, just more of a cost savings that makes a lot of sense IMO. The cost for auto show displays is staggering.

OMG you posted Tesla news...you must be a 'hater' lol - Lets see if this forces more exec types to bail.....I predict a Chinese purchase of this operation soon...unless they have hacked all of Tesla by now and simply dont need anything else from them!Detroit wrote: ↑Mon Mar 11, 2019 10:21 am Wow...making a bold move then backtracking. I think I actually remember the exact company, yeah. maybe Best Coast engineers are different, but the ones here are mostly conservative to the point of just being dull.
