That's hilarious. Hallway through your post I was having the exact same thought. Like "man, this would be like Greek to me if I hadn't been on mk6..." And I felt proud of myself because I did that same job on my old car.Thedude wrote: ↑Thu Oct 25, 2018 8:05 pm The gf calls me panicked as I’m taking my walk today about a CEL popping. It’s a mk6 GTI so I’m like “cool pack. Easy peasy, my boo”. She gets home and I do the scan. Yep. Misfire cyl 3. I have 4 r8 coils used for 30k miles that were fine when I pulled them so I did a quick swap and sent her on a test drive.
Critical this is handled now as she has to drive 100+ miles for a meeting Monday and we’re leaving for VT tomorrow.
Just got the text that she’s pulling great. She’ll be home in a few.
Csb, right?
Just posting this because it hit me that this is all due to my days at golfmk6. A few on this board can be credited for being inspirational figures to me.
You see, I never touched a car before my mk6. Yeah, I’ve changed a tire before but nothing more. Thanks to golfmk6 and some of you guys here I just saved my gf a half day trip to the diller and maybe $150 or whatever they get for that.
Anyway, feeling grateful for you car guys that inspired me!

My car did that. And when I pulled the coil pack out it was coated in oil. That’s when I noped out of that thing.Thedude wrote: ↑Thu Oct 25, 2018 8:05 pm The gf calls me panicked as I’m taking my walk today about a CEL popping. It’s a mk6 GTI so I’m like “cool pack. Busted valve cover gasket (which inexplicably requires timing chain cover replacement to fix)
Busted RMS
Busted shift lever
Busted sunroof for the 2nd time
Busted front crossmember bolting
That's what was wrong at 60k miles when I traded it in. Fuck that car.

Yeah, hers is at 100k. There was some oil or oily residue on the coil. None was pooled by the spark plug or anything so I'm honestly not sure if it is motor oil or something else.Johnny_P wrote: ↑Fri Oct 26, 2018 9:08 amMy car did that. The lovemobile has been bombing across the surface of the moon for 2 years now hardly ever exceeding 25 MPH and..... there are a few buzzes in the dashboard? that's not bad IMO considering what i went through with my last 2 cars.

Damn I'm salty today.
Probably because I'm donating my entire social life to the "make the refinery great again" cause for the next month and a half. I wasn't supposed to be doing this anymore. I was supposed to be out of this horseshit.
