+1 on BRZ....Detroit wrote:If going WRX, just do STI.Johnny_P wrote: It's not terrible. Maybe BRZ actually is the answer. It's NA, compact, sporty, can fit dog and bike.
Kids car. Don't think I care. WRX is technically the better buy, it's basically same price (new) and way more powerful while being just as fun and better resale. WRX would be horrific for the city, totally NGH.
STI is cooler and I want it.
I think there's an argument that could be made for the BRZ, doe.

With Scion dead and winter coming, I expect that any left over FRS should be available at a discount.Detroit wrote:FRS is that cheap?troyguitar wrote:$24k new FRS > $23k used BRZ.

And the FRS is $16k used, BRZ holds more value used just because of the badge. More likely to be owned by kids. And lacking heated seats and HID lights.troyguitar wrote:$24k new FRS > $23k used BRZ.
A used low mile non-first-year FRS is like $20k. Meh.

Considering the BRZ and 370Z play in the same price /year range I see absolutely fucking no reason to go with a dinky engined ring popping subaru powered toyota with no power.

This is true. A 370Z is a much better buy for the money.maxtdi wrote:Considering the BRZ and 370Z play in the same price /year range I see absolutely fucking no reason to go with a dinky engined ring popping subaru powered toyota with no power.

Yep it does, but it is kind of the current Chevy Design language. Sadly most compact cars look like anus. No way around it.Detroit wrote:I'm legit in the new Cruze. I liked it at first, but the more I see them, I think it looks like a last gen Elantra.
I like the Mazda 3. Simple, unique shape, appealing front and rear. The Civic and Prius are just busy and hideous.
But, to each their own.

That's it. That's the only reason for the BRZ instead of 370Z.

Yeah. Or sounded good. Or was reliable.[user not found] wrote:I think they'd be phenomenal with something that didn't have that stupid torque dip in the middle of the powerband.Johnny_P wrote: They're fun as hell
They'd be much better with a Honda K-series engine.

Probably. Or really just something that revved better and didn't die in the mid range. It's not bad stock, really. Most of the torque dip rage is really just a product of forum bitching. But it isn't a great engine.[user not found] wrote:FTFYJohnny_P wrote: They're fun as hell

The centerpiece of any sports car is the motor, this one is absolute garbage.

Sports cars traditionally have mediocre engines unless they're exotics. See the corolla motor MR2, mazda's little tractor motor in the miata, all of the old euro shit that made sub-100 hp, even the corvette has historically had a slow truck motor.

Ideally any lightweight car that handles well and has above average handling would be awesome. Looks are important too.

I disagree any sports car that is worth a damn has some kind of unique and or at least powerful motor with the sole exception being the gayata, which is more less focused on being super light so an engine isn't that crucial.troyguitar wrote:You're talking about muscle cars.maxtdi wrote:

Porsches/corvettes/Ferraris/m bmws/AMG Mercedes
/Supra/370z/3000gt/gtr all have powerful engines
Brz just obviously ran out of money in the development process so they stuffed that pos in there. It would be twice the car if it had the 2.0t but that ain't happening
