Well if comfort setting makes the ride equal to my car IMO it's manageablemax225 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 15, 2018 2:34 pmI think the issue is the wheels (dubs), the suspension is good in "comfort" pretty close to an STI I'd say. However in sport + it is firmer for sure.Johnny_P wrote: ↑Thu Mar 15, 2018 2:31 pm
Yeah an old ass car like an E46 will feel like hot garbage compared to something new like this.
Ride sucks in both sport and pillow mode on the shocks? That's a little annoying I guess but there are limits to what a suspension system can do, and this places priority on handling as you mentioned so that's that. Does it ride more bouncy or more crashy?
The base mode (comfort) is 20-30% firmer than the "sport" mode in the M sport. I can't use any actual metric to quantify it. I think a base model M3 with 18s would ride quite well though. I wonder what my car would ride like on 18s.

To be fair, my E46 had newish (3 year old) shocks + the competition package calipers(fixed). It had all maintenance done and around 82k miles. The brakes were good, but steering/hanlding etc is just no where near this. Also up front I was fairly disappointed with it at the limit, one of the many reasons I sold it.Johnny_P wrote: ↑Thu Mar 15, 2018 2:31 pmYeah an old ass car like an E46 will feel like hot garbage compared to something new like this.max225 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 15, 2018 2:22 pm
There is no question this car sucks over big pot holes or bad expansion joints. I have already adjusted my driving to it. However, considering how quickly it can change direction, they can be avoided rather easily. But yea... this is not a 0FG big gulp sipping vehicle.
The tradeoff is handling. You can't have your cake and eat it to. I love how flat this thing is through turns, and how much mechanical grip there is, I haven't tested the limits yet, but this comes close to my C5 in terms of mechanical grip when that thing was on 265/305s.
I just can't believe someone would say an E46 M3 is comparable and or better. It is an absolute pile compared to this car.

No good pics yet. The car is really dirty, and it is pouring rain here. I think i'll try to get some good pics in the next couple of days after going 50% [user not found] at it. It is nice to have a car I care about to some extent.
is good but really loving the car you drive is better.

So based on a bit of research, it seems that the F80 M3s are the first "reliable" ones since the E36s, mainly due to the engine not being completely all that different from the N55 motor, also the DCT dates back almost 10 years so a lot of the kinks were worked out.
The only issue that seems to be mentioned is the "crank hub" but mainly affecting bros that think the factory tune is for pussies.
But there is a bit of a grain of salt on this one, since the E9X were the "first reliable" engines also until they started popping throttle actuators and rod bearings.

Yea, they haven't been out long enough to be deemed reliable.max225 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 15, 2018 7:19 pm So based on a bit of research, it seems that the F80 M3s are the first "reliable" ones since the E36s, mainly due to the engine not being completely all that different from the N55 motor, also the DCT dates back almost 10 years so a lot of the kinks were worked out.

I think this "trial period" will be interesting. It'll give me enough time to figure that out. By the time the car is done, the "oldest" m3s would be close to 6 years old and come off "first model year issues" if they are still solid the platform is as a whole.Detroit wrote: ↑Thu Mar 15, 2018 7:49 pmYea, they haven't been out long enough to be deemed reliable.max225 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 15, 2018 7:19 pm So based on a bit of research, it seems that the F80 M3s are the first "reliable" ones since the E36s, mainly due to the engine not being completely all that different from the N55 motor, also the DCT dates back almost 10 years so a lot of the kinks were worked out.

There are alot of commuters doing the M3 daily thing. Its a car and overall its reliable. Given the level of power and tech/sophistication that is saying something. Enjoy it. If you like it near the end of this lease, buy it and live. If not there will be lots of options for you as well. Win fkn Win.....thats the norm for ///////////MMMMMMMMMMM drivers LOLmax225 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 15, 2018 7:51 pmI think this "trial period" will be interesting. Wow, BMW automatically applied a $350 Loyalty credit to my account, I.E i didn't have to pay the lease turn in fee as would normally happen if I didn't "buy a new car" through the So I didn't have to pay $350 I thought I did...

I have had a car that is 70% similar to this for 18 months, not like this is an all new vehicle for me. All my complaints about the last car were addressed with this one. So I am just
