So a family sedan and a high school kid's car are just as fast as supercars used to be.
Classic car thread.

Right. Or the Fost RS, or the Civic Rwhatever, or the GoRf, or the new Volvo 4 bangers. All right around 300 HP. MostMexicanYarisTK wrote: ↑Tue Sep 05, 2017 11:32 amTake a look at CLA 45 AMG now, 300 hp out of a 4 banger. We have come a long way.wap wrote: ↑Tue Sep 05, 2017 11:29 am
Ha! So basically stock numbers. A wee bit more HP and less torque.
How far we've come when a 4-banger hot hatch with non-class leading hp is basically more powerful than a 48 valve V8 super car from only 30 years ago, not to mention more comfortable, better handling, and orders of magnitute safer.

is the only problem with current cars. They're better in virtually every way except they often don't feel special like some old cars always will. You can't really engineer in those intangibles I guess.Johnny_P wrote: ↑Tue Sep 05, 2017 11:34 amYeah its not fast. Really his MK6 is probably just as quick.wap wrote: ↑Tue Sep 05, 2017 11:29 am

This is why old cars are mostly stupid propositions. New cars are faster, more reliable, better built, quieter, handle better....
Thing is, the 308 feels really special when you're driving it. It's not the best to drive overall, but the theater this car puts on is incredible and very entertaining.
I liked the Cayman a hell of a lot more though.

Yup. And much more reliable and fuel efficient and safe. But wouldn't you really prefer to drive a Countach or 512 if you could?Johnny_P wrote: ↑Tue Sep 05, 2017 11:41 am @WAP

cars are becoming more isolated to the driver when it comes to feedback, even newer cars are more electric car like, as if we are actually heading to that direction.wap wrote: ↑Tue Sep 05, 2017 11:48 amis the only problem with current cars. I love classic cars, but they're like boats, better when someone else owns them. If I'm ever lucky enough to retire and need something to occupy my time, I could see getting one though.

Something like this Ford all hot-rodded up and rolling on up to date fully adjustable performance suspension would be tits.MexicanYarisTK wrote:I loved watching Gone in 60 Seconds when I was a kid, and this car would probably conclude as my favorite classic.
I also really like the BMW 2002, Renault Alpine, older 911's, Chevy Nova's and Chevelle's.

Even looking at cars from the mid-to-late 90's compared to now is
As good as cars are today with all of the 'lectronic wizardry, there's nothing quite like the feeling one gets from driving a performance car from the analogue age.

I always thought the Hawaii 5-0 Mercury would be a great cruiser. Loved the look of the mercury cyclones, galaxie, cougars, fairlanes. Subtle class without trying to look gaudy and over the top like Cadillac and Lincoln.
English spelling of analogue. Good thing people after that shit or I'd be out of a job.
