The $5k range opens a lot of really decent options. Sub $2k is just straight hooptie status really.
Cheapest transport you can find for (15k miles a year) :scrooge:

Dont forget early 2000s Celica. It's a cheap option here and ive seen some very nice examples that look like they are well cared for and dirt cheap.troyguitar wrote:If you up the budget to $4k or so instead of $1500, you can essentially get any kind of car and have it be halfway decent.

TBH the best deal in terms of reliability and cheap is the $2K Matrix.troyguitar wrote: ↑Wed Nov 15, 2017 4:34 pm If you up the budget to $4k or so instead of $1500, you can essentially get any kind of car and have it be halfway decent.

That one is suspect but the rest are real.
I've looked off and on for Celicas over the past few years now and they're incredibly hard to find in decent shape. Everyone who has ever owned one apparently beat the shit out of it. On the rare occasion that you find a nice one, they are often accompanied by $10k+ asking prices.
That's why I'd focus on stuff that's less desirable and thus depreciated further - like everything from Saturn, Pontiac, Saab, Mazda, Mercury, Kia/Hyundai, and really sedans/hatches in general.

Those Milans are pretty good cars. It's a badge-engineered first gen Mazda6/Fusion, complete with double wishbone suspension.

My parents didn't like the fact that I was gonna have a luxury brand as my first car. So I ended up with a manual Corolla. Also that thing had some issues, mostly with electrical. They ended up selling it shortly after I got my license.wap wrote: ↑Wed Nov 15, 2017 3:55 pmYou might still have it if it was!MexicanYarisTK wrote: ↑Wed Nov 15, 2017 11:57 am
