I think this would be fun game. Show of your inner :scrooge: and anti :troywax:
Selling my lancer it's been great reliable vehicle very well maintained serviced on time as scheduled, all new timing belt, new brakes, new tune up, and more, engine is 4cyl with only 128k.miles original runs excellent,
$1700 should run for another 100k next to nothing.

Most :scrooge: for the buck

reliable...
Serviced...
Cheap to maintain...
Japanese....

Fun fact: The Spyder has Echo front brakes. :scrooge: :stig:

I'd say that right now the cheapest car for a longer term might be one of those 2016 Scion iA's if you can grab one for around $7k private party, it's a practically new car that should last 15-20 years with maintenance. These $2k cars are cheaper now but won't last as long and will need more maintenance sooner.

You can buy 3 cars for the price of that 7k car... A lance should go 300k miles easy.... if you maintain it... which is cheap... if that's done get another... IA is a better car but no way cheaper.

Depends on your standards... I'd be putting another $2-3k into any of these old $2k cars during the first year to bring it up to par. It's pretty much $5k minimum for any car that I'd actually drive.

The goal is :scrooge: driving.
Only safety/reliability matters.
Oil change/coolant/tires which you can likely buy used for $20-30 a pop used are at most $400 to bring it up to poverty "spec"

:disgust:

This is the cheapest thing I see locally right now that you might be able to drive for awhile cheaply:

Plastic car with :manuel: trans should be able to run for eternity.

I'd think something like this is worth the extra $1k :doe:

This one actually looks like it's in good shape, plus the mileage is super low.

I kind of want to go buy that black one now, I didn't realize those cars were actually decent besides just being cheap:

Cliffs: 124 hp DOHC engine, 23xx lbs with IRS and 4x100 miata-sized wheels/tires, should be cheap aftermarket suspension stuff out there from old SCCA racers.

:notbad: indeed. :plac:

Geo Prizm, rebadged toyota, GM depreciation. I do have a shady feeling about it, as I can tell from the tags, he bought it a few months ago. The name is also arabic as well.

They are the bastards of the cheap cars... Arguably competitive (HP/TQ/Features) to a civic/corolla from a performance perspective, and then even CHEAPER parts.
