Chevrolet said Wednesday that the new, 2019 Corvette ZR1 — at 755 horsepower, the most powerful ‘Vette ever produced — shattered the Virginia International Speedway record just days after Ford’s GT supercar became the first car to record a sub-2 minute, 40 second lap around “America’s Nürburgring.”

King ZR1 posted a jaw-dropping 2.37.3 time — over a second under the 2.38.6 lap record announced by Ford just last week.

Ford’s GT time, in turn, had bested the Dodge Viper ACR’s 2.40.0 time — one of 13 American race track lap records the Snake set in 2015 before the car was retired from production last year.

:wtf: The fender apron is breaking in half in those pics? I'm not even sure what forces would cause that to happen.
Poor vibrational stress management.

Happens on FJs that see a lot of rough pavement or fireroads.

Every aftermarket one I ever saw installed leaked.

And the body panels at the base of the glass/cowl/top of fender comes loose again.

Probably. :disappoint:
So, apparently they fixed that whole fender apron failure bit on the later FJs starting in 2009 or so. That 2014 would be fine.
Oh that's not bad then, at least they fixed it for later models.

Hot on the heels of Ford’s “accidental” lap record at Virginia International Raceway earlier last week, Chevrolet gleefully announced the upcoming 2019 Corvette ZR1 smashed the Ford GT’s still-fresh time by 1.37 seconds.

Followed a Sebring Orange ZR1 home from work yesterday. A pre-production vehicle with winter tires on for cold weather testing. The want is so strong.

Interesting bit from an article on the ZR1 lap:
Perhaps the most impressive part of this ordeal isn't the ZR1's lap, but rather a lap set by the Chevy team earlier in a manual-transmission Corvette Z06. They were able to lap the car around VIR's Grand Course West in 2:39.77—a little more than a second slower than the Ford GT. Not bad for being a quarter of the price.
:notbad:

Automatic Z06 is probably near as quick as the ZR1.
