During hurricanes, construction cranes are designed to react like weather vanes by rotating the direction the wind is blowing, Whiteman said. It’s not possible to take every single construction crane down because only a few companies in South Florida perform that job and they could never get to every crane before a storm, he said.
Maurice Pons, the deputy director of the Building Department for Miami, issued a statement warning against staying in a building near a construction crane during Hurricane Irma. The cranes are designed to withstand miles of up to 145 mile per hour. Hurricane Irma currently has 150 mile-per-hour winds, and stronger gusts.
Miami has 20 to 25 construction cranes up.

I said the same thing unless they have a ground floor and the dam saves headache. But it's only good for 2.5' of water.

Every time that I turn on the news, there's a reporter telling me how important it is that everybody stays inside while they're standing out in the street next to a bunch of trees in high winds. I guess reporters aren't people

It's amazing that they have these people go outside. I was watching it and debris just hit the guy! Another one was standing on top of a parking garage! What in the actual fuck? Why do we need to see that? What is the purpose? Millions of people in Florida don't even have power so how would it even matter? Another one was just carrying a tree that had fallen. They could barely stay there. Another one was tied onto some sort of cement block or something so he wouldn't fly away.SixSpeeder wrote: ↑Sun Sep 10, 2017 3:27 pm Every time that I turn on the news, there's a reporter telling me how important it is that everybody stays inside while they're standing out in the street next to a bunch of trees in high winds. The "news" is all about the action and the amount of viewers they get. And all of the flashy logos and sounds and see how many tiles they can fit on a screen now. Where every time there's a wind gust it becomes breaking news.

It's why I don't watch the "news".

Heard about this. You seeing any effects from it? Like smoke, haze, etc? Can you see the fires from the pay area?max225 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 11, 2017 1:54 pm https://www.yahoo.com/gma/thousands-fle ... ories.html
