A couple pizza riders have switched to CAAD12's with no complaints. My buddy Jon had a new one yesterday and said it rides super smooth. He's coming from a steel handmade Wraith and an aluminum 8Bar. All gloss white, minimal branding, looked killer. I'll try one out.[user not found] wrote: ↑Thu May 31, 2018 3:52 pm Honestly I'd just tell you to get a CAAD or something,
I love mine, it's cheap, light, stiff, and great to ride.
Sell the Cervelo - you're not racing anyway.

That’s the other question. To disc or not to disc? Not is lighter. With may have better braking but who actually knows. I haven’t been upset by my poverty rim brakes.[user not found] wrote: ↑Thu May 31, 2018 4:32 pmCAAD rides nice with SAVE rear seatstays.
I'd love a CAAD disc.

CX bike update: This thing rocks!
All dat mud I did gravel hill repeats last night so that's why it's
Ok, now for the bad stuff. The Shimano 105 parts are generally rather good, and I've been happy with them. But. Fucking All City put a SHORT CAGE rear mech on it. Argh. On their site it's unclear which it's supposed to get, but pictures made it look like it's supposed to have the GS (long) cage instead of the short one I have. WTF. So, it has a 33t capacity, so biggest it can handle with a WolfTooth Road Link is 32t. So I can't get it to an 11-36 cassette without changing that out too.
To get 1:1 low, which I want, I'd need to change out the cassette, chain (longer needed), mech, and add the RoadLink. $193 to change gearing because All City's spec blows. Ugh.
Do I go 1x?
Cassette and chain are sunken cost because I'd do them anyway. RD is apparently sunken cost. So change out cost is shifters, crank/bb (or chainring) at that point.
Upgrade 105: $193
Rival 1x: $409 (non-hydro, so no brake upgrades, and just a WolfTooth or RaceFace ring)
Weight savings would be minimal if any, a 42t cassette weighs a lot. I kinda like the 105 stuff now, I can brake and downshift at the same time which is nice. Also with the 2x I get better gear selection. IDK. 1x advantages would be better chain retention although I haven't had a problem with this, drivetrain simplicity, and native compatibility with wider range cassettes.
Hm. I think I do enough road to justify keeping 2x...
Just to be clear though, I love this bike. LOVE it. I think it's my favorite bike I own right now because of what it can do. It's basically limitless around here. Also for the wheels I think I'm going to do WTB KOM i21 with DT240 or White hubs and Sapim Laser spokes. 32 spoke, still light, great tubeless compatibility, superior hubs with great parts availability and support to swap to any axle standard for a nominal fee.

Also gotta throw a bone to King Cage water bottle cages. Stainless, strong, and hasn't ejected a water bottle yet despite me getting pretty fucking stupid on this bike. Worth the $20.

Also, don't forget philly peoples, Philly MTB Phestival is this weekend!
Demo bikes from: Cannondale, Specialized, and Trek and possibly Surly or Salsa
So there's a swap meet too. I'll see what there is, maybe I can on some of these bike parts. I'd be cool with picking up a second hand rear mech but doubt I'll find 11 speed stuff. Maybe I'll find a wheelset for road or cross? Or MTB crank?

It'll ride on road pretty good, and it's really comfy. Rolling resistance is higher than it would be on a slick tire road bike. It'll ride in the woods on gravel roads just fine. Tear through a grass field without issue way better than a MTB will. And you can ride a lot of singletrack as long as there aren't drop offs or major obstacles, you just end up going slower and picking your lines more carefully. You may need to hike-a-bike as it has less clearance at the BB than a typical 29er. And right now the gearing is no bueno for slow tight technical stuff.
I've really been enjoying linking all sorts of stuff together with this. It's a lot easier to get to the Wissahickon riding this than it is riding my hardtail. And as such I've been riding in the Wiss far more than I had in years prior.
I think I'm going to take it to pizza ride tonight if that's still on.

We'll have to see if the weather holds out for it. Not looking too promising right now.[user not found] wrote: ↑Tue Jun 05, 2018 11:41 amHmmmmmmm.Johnny_P wrote: ↑Tue Jun 05, 2018 9:54 am Also, don't forget philly peoples, Philly MTB Phestival is this weekend!

What time is afternoon? I am not sure I can swing another bike day this week. Lisa has been a champ taking care of the pup lately.[user not found] wrote: ↑Tue Jun 05, 2018 12:56 pmI may be looking to Wiss on Thursday afternoon. Maybe.

You don’t have to do every climb. Skip monster and it’s not bad.[user not found] wrote: ↑Fri Jun 08, 2018 12:36 amWiss ain’t no joke.
I did over 100 feet of climbing per mile tonight. Gberg would be RIP.
Even the name sounds intimidating.
I definitely got better later in the summer last year but riding wiss my first time out this summer is probably too much.

Monster blows to even walk up. Switch the direction at that part of the park and it's not bad though. There are ways to ride Wiss to reduce the pain. Lots of new fun shit in that park though. Flowy downhills and such. Some of the climbs have been drastically cleaned up too.Gberg2119 wrote: ↑Fri Jun 08, 2018 9:13 amEven the name sounds intimidating.[user not found] wrote:
