New TA2 announced

https://www.giant-bicycles.com/us/tranc ... ced-2-2019

Image

Big changes are 150mm Fox36(!) with GRIP2 damper, NX Eagle drivetrain, 5mm narrower carbon wheels. No geo changes. Advanced 0 gets a DVO fork and shock

And AA1

https://www.giant-bicycles.com/us/anthe ... ced-1-2019

Image

Spec'd basically the same as TA2, but with Fox34 Fit4.

The black and orange looks killer. The fork on that Trance is :impressive: with separate adjustment for both low and high speed compression AND damping. Not sure on NX Eagle, that's the budget groupset from them but I'm sure it's alright enough. Carbon wheels look nice, they're hookless now so hopefully stronger. Apparently that was a weak point, the CF rims had a tendency to break if hit hard enough. Odd that they didn't change any geometry, they got ragged on last year for that.

Dat black and orange is :jimp:

I'd love for something like that on a lower spec Anthem.

Time to get squishy?

As much as I'd like to I'm going to ride this Cannondale into the ground. Then full squish.

I don't ride the kind of terrain to need a Fox 36, but mmmmm. I notice the difference between the 32 and the 34 for sure, though.

On BOOST forks it's a bit less pronounced between a Fox 32 and a 34. 36 seems pretty park oriented, but :member: that all the big dick RS forks (Revelation, Yari, Pike) are 35mm chassis. Revelation RC was the best fork I tested last year. But this new GRIP2 damper sounds seriously impressive based on initial reviews. Uses the same oil path technology as enduro dirt bike forks and is supposedly ridiculously supple on small bumps.

They're all way better than my Fox F29 noodle. I should just put a cf rigid fork on that bike.

I rode a modified Remedy 8 at Bike Park Wales, which has a Pike on it. I can’t say it blew me away... although I did clear a few tables and small doubles and went through a decent amount of travel on the landings.

I was most impressed by the wide 2.5”/2.3” tire combo and 30mm wide rims. It gave me so much more tire surface to play around with and made the bike feel beefy.

Fair, the Fox 32 on the Orbea was a QR, the 34 on the Trance is BOOST with the :dedong: thru-axle. That probably makes more of a difference than the extra 2mm.

I think the boost thru axle does more for stiffness than 2mm increase on leg diameter.

So this place was seriously, ridiculously epic. Consistent van uplift to the top of the mountain. A huge mix of amazingly groomed trails snaking in and out of the forest down the mountain... I can not explain how amazing the trails were. I didn't venture out onto any of the black trails, but got a few little red trails in before I almost died from exhaustion.

Admission is £8 ($12) for access to the park and the fire roads or XC climb trail to climb back to the top, or £5 a ride in the van if there's empty space. I paid £30 for a priority daily uplift pass and £60 to rent the Remedy 8 for the day.

Totally worth the 8 hour round trip from where we were staying. Epic 120 mile Welsh country backroad drive both ways, too.
