Car Talk 6: Best of times and Worst of Times

Oh nice! I have that one saved in my excel file. I'm not too keen on the black but, it has the options I want. I don’t love black vehicles. I wish it made sense financially to paint or wrap the Mini. Would love to get it done in British Racing Green with white for the roof and mirrors. :doit:

I rented a Nissan Armada with 39K miles on it in Hawaii. "Tahoe Class Vehicle." It was.......a pile. Rear suspension sag big time, resulting in near tuck with 4 passengers and luggage. Handled vaguely even accounting for its barge status. Thirsty. Ugly. Some mediocre design components lik...

I really don’t get that trim level. It’s has the m motor … but it’s detuned … m badging all over the place … it’s over 100k msrp … but it’s not an XM5 A horrendous fam car imo from a cost of ownership perspective when you have a great B58 powered X5 for like 65k It's NOT a family car. It's a dicksw...

:plac: never sleeps QFT, the man is a disease. Although, I did get to give my wife som perspective this weekend.... the guy we were at camping site next to had 17 cars. Varying classic and muscle cars. Most in good to show car shape, or less than 5 years old. Including a hellkitty & SRT heep. S...

In4pics. Allison is pregnant again! So I’m curious if a seat would fit in the 86 with the passenger seat in the dash. I’m hoping there’s just no need at first. Congrats ! Don’t worry about the car right now. You got more important things to solve for and you’ll be taking the suv with the kid anyway...

Man lightly used Blackwings can be had for sub $60k? Lotta car for that :megusta: :jelly: :excited:

The red looks quite good as well. Is it more of a true red or more AARPurple? Don’t think I’ve seen it in person but I love it in pics.

I came in here to say... I kinda miss my mini. It was a great little car and the only vehicle out of the last 7 that I owed that I regret selling.... That said.... I would have 0 use for it nowadays I could see that for sure. I got that car seat fully installed in here. It just barely fits behind t...

I can't ever get more than 30K out of any tires, which is because I drive like an asshole? Now I hear about all this dry rot, and I'm like :thisisfine: I mean same and I don't even put many miles on. All Terrains seem to be the exception though, 50K on the :jeep: and they're going pretty strong. A ...

Yeah the ride isn't great :lolol:

If you lower tire pressures to like 32 it's significantly improved. I think the shocks are just cheap though, I bet with a nice set of Bilsteins it would ride fine.
What’s the factory recommended pressure?
35 PSI.

That's an interesting point that likely has a lot of truth to it. It seems obvious but I've just never thought of it like that. The sword is double edged. When you were young you were more active and POOR. When you're poor you don't stop at the local tavern after work and throw down a couple of IPA...

I'm with you, Michelin is just a very overrated brand IMO. The ones on the 86 have been aight but I've never been too impressed with other sets. I loved the AS3+ tires I had on the MK7. Quiet, good grip for a no-season, and really good steering feel compared to something like a DWS with super squis...

It's interesting as everyone knows how much real estate agents get paid pretty much. So I guess the thinking is if you're rocking a $10K vehicle, you don't have experience selling other $1 million+ homes? Still kind of dumb... I think in my line of work, too nice would be more of an issue. 'If they're paying you that much, we could probably get these products cheaper somewhere else' kind of thing. Still weird to me that people would care…. I guess they don’t perceive you as ‘successful’ in an old car but that is dumb. It’s an enthusiast vehicle. The TJ is the ultimate commuter.
